[ARCHIVED THREAD] - has anyone else converted their 10 round mags to high caps?

my friend taught me how to convert a 10 round USP9f mag to hold 15 rounds. has anyone else tried this trick? i bought 7 10 round mags for $5.50 a piece, and converted them all to 15 rounds for less than the price of a single LE only mag. I took them to the range the other day, and every single one of them feeds flawlessly. just wondering if anyone else has done this trick.

ok. you disassemble the mag, and take the Y shaped piece out. reassemble the mag without it, and superglue the bottom on. it prevents you from being able to clean the mag, but for the price of the 10 round mags (got mine for $5.50), it's not much of a loss. but i'm sure if you're motivated enough you can break the seal, clean it, and glue it back up again.

For range..... maybe.

But for a carry weapon, I would NOT trust super-glue to hold the bullets in my gun, especially since it'd be under constant pressure of the spring.

that's why i bought one 15 round LEO mag. for the range, i've been using my frankenmags and they have been 100% reliable. and what's the worst that could happen? bottom pops off? nothing a little more superglue wouldn't fix.

nah. i tried. superglue's the only thing that will hold it completely solid.

oh, and i forgot to mention that you not only seal the bottom completely w/ superglue, but you glue the tabs into the side too. as far as i can tell, the bottom isn't goin ANYWHERE soon. it's very sturdy.

sounds like a neat trick, how ever i dont see a big point in saving 10 dollars for a lesser magazine that is going to go in a 500-1000 dollar pistol.. but thats just me.

neat trick, but I need to disssmble my 10 rounds to clean. some places I shoot you have to dig for your mags in the sand.

saving 10 dollars? where are you getting $15 high caps? round here they're about $40.

I tried this trick in an USPc .40 mag... (took out the plastic "Y" piece completely for the test. I only got 11rds in a 10rd mag. You would HAVE to glue in the bottom. Yes it holds without glue, but even a little snag and I could see the bottom popping off and bye-bye all that amunition. The "Y" piece gives resistance against the "fingers" that hold the butt piece in.

Anyone weld two 10rd mags together? 3?? ;)

Big Bore did it with a compact .45 (2 8 rounds).

I have made several high caps out of 10 rounders. I did this with 12 USP and SOCOM .45 mags which yielded six 17 round capacity, two USPC .40 10 round mags which yielded one 17 round capacity, and two USPC 45 mags which yielded one 12 round capacity. On the USP and SOCOM mags I used a STI 170mm spring and on the Compacts I used the 140 mm STI spring.

USP 45 17 round mag.

Tactical with the 5 USP 17 round mags.

USPC 45 with 12 round mag.

No pics of the SOCOM or Compact .40.

on the HK mags that are metal you can just weld them, no need for JB.

Just be sure to have them TIG welded unless you welder can weld the crack of dawn or fix a broken heart, then he can MIG weld them. The metal is thin and you need either to be a cracker-jack welder or use very low heat like you can with the TIG.

I see no use what-so-ever for these mags and only did them because I could. While they have worked 100% and I would trust them for serious use, one has to take a reality check somewhere. IMHO they are totally worthless for anything but range-play but to that end they are great.
