I owned an HKF40 and I didn't care for the sharp recoil. I've heard it was HK's locking bolt and it is characteristic of a .40 S&W. I own a Glock 27 and don't have similiar recoil issues so I assumed the latter wasn't true. I got rid of the HK becuase of the recoil, but I loved the look and feel of the USPs and now I want a HK Tactical 45, I think. Anyone that has both, have you felt the "sharp" recoil on the 40, and does it exist in the 45?

.40 S&W is a higher pressure round and it produces more felt recoil. I have a .45 USP Tactical. A friend has a USP in .40 and there is a very noticeable difference.

personally, i hate the .40sw round. i'd take a .45 or 9mm over it anyday. to me, the .45 has the best feeling recoil of them all with 9mm right behind that.

FWIW

I would call the recoil on mu USP .45 a gentle shove. I hd a .40 Beretta and recoil was very sharp. The Beretta felt more like a .45 1911. The .45 USP has recoil but the muzzle doesn't try to flip up as badly as the .40 I had.

wow! I consider my .40 USP f to be a light recoiling gun compared to similar .40 cal. Guess it's all in the user's perception.

I think the recoil on my USP 45 is more manageable than my old G27 which was pretty sharp, this is all from memory though.

i agree. i shot a USP .40 and an XD40 on the same day, and the HK was so much better.

Recoil is very subjective. To me, shooting identical USPCs except for caliber I find no real difference in recoil amount between the .45/.40/.357SIG. What I do find different is the speed of the recoil. With the SIG and the .40 the recoil feels sharper and more quick than does the recoil of the .45 but I would not say "more" recoil, just different in its speed.

Sold, I think I will try to find a Tactical 45 if I can. If not, I will hold out for the new HK 45 and hope the don't use the Mark 23 pricing model.

I have a USP .45 Tactical and a .40 P99. The USP is far more pleasent to shoot. Mostly because its almost twice the size of the P99. I was also able to find a muzzle weight off a USP Match and with that, its REALLY nice! The sharp recoil of the .40 has really turned me off of that caliber. Get the USP Tactical, through a Houge grip sleeve thing on it and you are sure to love it. You can't ever go wrong with the tried and true all american .45.
