I've heard we'll be waiting until after the closing of the new SOCOM pistol solicitations.

Check >HERE< for details. I've copied some of the text from >THIS< text document as well. So it looks like no one's sure when it will end, but it appears they will start getting down to business in March. How long the whole process will take, I don't think anyone knows for sure yet.

2.     Block 8 of SF 1449 for the draft solicitation lists an offer due date of 30 November 2005.  Will it be possible that the actual offer due date will be sooner than 30 November 2005?

Answer:  Block 8 will be revised at time of actual issuance of the RFP to allow the proposal due date to be at least 60 days from issuance of RFP.

3.  JCP Schedule:   Can you please provide the schedule for JCP to include expected dates of:  Final RFP Release, Proposal Response Deadline, Expected Contract Award Date. Projected First Delivery Order date and Quantities Funding.

Answer: Final RFP Release:  Projected in January 2006
Proposal Response Deadline:  Projected in March 2006
Expected Contract Award Date:  Projected in 4Q FY06.
Projected First Delivery Order date and Quantities: The government will issue the first delivery order at time of award of the basic contract.  Currently IDIQ minimum quantity is 12 each JCPs without external manual safety which will be awarded as the initial Delivery Order.

wow, so they are supposed to be choosing their new sidearm by the end of the year? They sure are pretty quiet about it

The Combat Pistol System consists of: a Caliber .45 pistol and its ancillary equipment including: Magazines (standard and high-capacity); Suppressor Attachment Kit for operation of the pistol with and without sound suppressor;...

Sounds like a HK45 'Tactical' to me.

did that say no external safety?  WTF

the military doesn't use a safety anyhow, at least the USAF didn't.  The M9 has a safety, but SOP is that it is only used as a decocker, the pistol is carried on fire with a round in the chamber.

Taken from the synopsis found >HERE<. Look on the 11th line in the large requirement and feature paragraph.

The estimated Maximum quantities are: 45,000 no external safety JCP configuration and 600,000 JCP with the external safety configuration.

This shows that they are more interested in pistols with safeties, but I'm still confused as they must have had a typo. The requirements involve 12 pistols with a safety and twelve pistols with no safety for the initial testing. Notice it says 12 each, so my guess is they didn't write exactly what they were supposed to.

thanks.  im happy if its got an ambi safety and slide lock, threaded barrel, in a compact version (silent decocker would be nice too).  most army installations have special SOPs about sidearms, which i will not discuss.  only weapons that should be carried on fire are open bolt fired machine guns.

HK does have the HK45 and HK45 Compact at SHOT, as well as the 417. They aren't out for public viewing and picture taking is prohibited. HK PDX of HKPro got to toy around with them and he sounded pretty enthused.

Thats a step in the right direction, but it still falls short of the release.

I look forward to hearing some details and eventually the photos.

I was just told today that it will not be released until the 2007 SHOT show in Orlando. Several magazines have gotten access to it, so expect to see a few articles with detailed photos of the production models soon.

lol because of the  thread quote you both still hav it linked.

tbh I thought hot linking would be me posting pics from there server with out permission. hence stealing there BW

WHAT IS HOTLINKING AND BANDWIDTH THEFT?
Bandwidth theft or "hotlinking" is direct linking to a website's files (images, video, etc.). An example would be using an <IMG> tag to display a JPEG image you found on someone else's web page so it will appear on your own site, journal, weblog, forum posting, etc.

Bandwidth refers to the amount of data transferred from a website to a user's computer. When you view a webpage, you are using that site's data transfer to display the files. Since web hosts charge based on the amount of data transferred, bandwidth is an issue. If a site is over it's monthly bandwidth, it's billed for the extra data or taken offline.

A simple analogy for bandwidth theft: Imagine a random stranger plugging into your electrical outlets, using your electricity without your consent, and you paying for it.

What's wrong with the USP .45?

If it fits your hand, nothing.  IF Uncle is looking for  a replacment for the M9, He may have somethign in the spec for an adjustable grip.  M9 has the same problem with smaller hands.

+1. I hope they come up with something like the USP45compact tactical size but with the p2000 ergonomics.

I hear that it will be more like the tactical.  No proprietary light rail.  And cheaper than the MK23 for sure.  Price may be around $1100 or less.

I hope that they still offer match trigger, bbl, and large trig guard.  They also need to have tritium sights in yellow.  That would be good.

You can count on this pistol having a light rail.

It's being designed with the help of Larry Vickers & Ken Hackathorn. It's suppose to a 1911 "Replacement" for large units using the 1911A1. Think of it as a USP with 1911 controls & ergonomics.

I'm interested, but the trigger will made it or break for me.
