I was just looking around since I am new to handguns and while looking at H&Ks website, I saw prices over $1000.

WTF? Are they really that expensive? Hell that is more than the 2005 SEBR AR15

Any company's MSRP is usually outrageous. Dealers typically sell them for around 80% of that price, except the gun show goons. Then you can expect to pay MSRP + 20%

Some H&K models do indeed run $1000 each & a few run a bit more. The SOCOM model will run a lot more, $1500-1800 or so.

The standard USP in 9mm/40S&W/45acp will normally run $700 or so for a new in the box model. The Tactical & Match versions will be the ones running close to a grand.

Yes, they are as much or more than an AR15. They are also worth every penny, IMO.

SOCOM and Mk 23 are the same.  SOCOM mags can be used in the USP but there will be a gap at the bottom of the magazine floor plate.  You cannot use USP mags in the SOCOM even if you do switch floor plates.  The USP mags will fit if you switch floor plates but still will not feed reliably.
MSRP on the Mk 23 is $2412 but street price for NIB is betweeen $1930 and $2100 usually.
And they are worth every penny if your needs require such a pistol.

Also remember that pistols and rifles, regardless of size, are typically priced equally. So a cheap AR at $600-$700 versus a Glock at $450-$550.

Here in California, where the retailers can really stick it to you, a COMPACT runs in the $800 - $900 range!
