I'm looking at buying a Colt Double Eagle.
Anyone out there have experience with this weapon?

I`ve only seen a few pictures of the Double Eagle,and never handled one. I would suggest heading over to 1911forum.com or pistolsmith.com. People there might have more experience with it. Sorry I couldn`t be of more help.

Out of curiosity.....why would you want to buy it as opposed to a 1911?  The fact that it was discontinued says a lot.

I do remember reading about the early production runs having problems, mainly when firing DA, it would drop the hammer to half cock. I didnt like the plastic grip treatment, with the trigger pin snap ring exposed. Seems like Colt made some poopers back then...the All American 2000 comes to mind. Just to get product on the shelf that said Colt on it, whether it worked or not, seemed to be unimportant. If you can get to try it out first, to make sure it functions or merely put it away as a possible future Colt collectable?
