Havnt seen it yet but it belongs to a detective friend of mine, he wants 500 bucks for it he said its in great shape, he said it has the satin(?) finish. pretty much stock but has had some trigger work dont by a gun smith here local.y. what shoul i look for since i have no clue on the series 70?? is the price range worth it if its a good shooter? what yall think i need help thanks

$500 is about average, IMO. You're not getting screwed nor is he. Sometimes this isn't a a bad thing.

+1 on checking the insides.

Imnot sure if i wnat this or a sig 220 now, i cant get both cuz im broke.....what would you do?

I shot the colt today and i must say it was freaky accurate gun.  I only got to shoot 60 rounds and i wish i had another 100 or so today because i was having fun with that bad boy. i never realized the 1911 was so accurate until today. It was just a basic series 70 no frills colt. it did have some after market competion sights, not sure who mad them but they did help but the gun handled like a dream, no problems at all.

As the owner of both 1911s and a P220 I'd go with the 1911

even though the finish onit is not the best, i guess its called the satin finish?? not sure ill try and post pics. im new to the 1911 and have not tore this down yet, but it shoots like a dream. feeds any thing i put through it with out any problems. i just dont like the sights the guy has on it, they are some big ass competion sights. i would like to put some heine sights on it if i buy it.and maybe getit refineshed ina hard chrome. thanks again guys for all the info, so 500 bucks is a good buy?? for the series 70 used??

Again, you're not getting screwed nor is he. Sometimes that's the best thing, IMO.

You could always sell it for exactly what you paid for it, IMO.

I had a Series 70 back in the 80's and I could hit steel @100 yards pretty easy.  I really wish I owned it now.
