Hi!
Just aquired this 1942 US Army Marked Colt 1911 from another AR15 member.  I'm absolutley thrilled! This looks great next to that 1934 Colt commerical I posted a few months ago

I kick my ass every time I see one of these in this condition and realize what I could have bought several for 30-35 years ago...a few still in cosmoline.
You don't want to know. Sigh...  Beautiful pistol!

Sweet!!!! I have one just like it No. 8361XX from 1942 as well all Colt. I just does not look as nice. Was that 1911 refinished? If so, who did the work? If not...I hate you!

Yes, it was refinished by 1911 smith that passed away 10-15 years ago. The gentleman that aquired it from will be passing me the articles written about the smith and this pistol. |

Here is mine, not quite as nice as yours
 but similar number range. The question is...should I have it refinished? Would it lower it's value, I think the barel is not original and the safety lever looks supicious too. Any ideas?

XCIBES: IMHO, if the piece is not 100% collector grade there is really no reason (other than money) not to have it 'refinished' by someone who will restore it to its correct state. I suggest you talk with Bill Adair. If he feels your pistol is too nice to restore he will advise against it. |
