I've always thought that a .380 is right on the edge of effective defensive calibers. But, it's better than poking someone with a sharp stick and the fact that I'm looking for a small carry pistol, it comes into consideration. My question is, what kind of ammo do you guys use with your small .380's? Do you use hollow points or do you guys go for fmj's because of penetration problems? Please limit your responses to the .380. I know they have small 9's and .38's but I want to get all the info I can on the .380. Thanks.

Hornady 90gr XTP in a PPK/S

It may not be the ideal defense round but it works in a pinch.

For accuracy and power, I've read the 90 gr Hydra Shok is the way to go.  But as always stated, placement is MUCH more important than round choice.....practice alot!

corbons......only way to go on self defense...ball ammo really just suck even though its ball and don't penetrate that well.

I always carried Cor Bons, but I purchased a Beretta ,380 a couple of years ago and Cor Bons are a no-go in it.
