bought a lcp a few weeks ago for my edc and was wanting to put some hollow points in it. and i have a taurus pt140 want to keep mags loaded with hollow points as well and suggestions would be great and also some websites that would be good to buy from. all the places around town are sold out last i checked.

I thought cor-bon was making .380.  I would only go that route if I bought another .380....135 grn cor-bon for the .40, but I wouldn't use it with every gun, I don't run it in my G22, I have run this load in my PT140 M-Pro with no problems.

Use FMJ for your .380... I carry WWB in mine.

TAP hands down for me.





.40 doesn't matter so much.





There was a great article a few months ago about why larger caliber HP doesn't matter so much when it comes to velocity and expansion due to mass.  Small, lower mass, needs higher velocity to mushroom and therefore NOT pass through the target.





It feels counter intuitive, but makes perfect sense.

yup, usually has less feeding issues, plus most .380 JHP's don't expand, not enough velocity out of short barrels

I only carry FMJ in mine. I choose penetration over expansion every time.

I don't know why I bother.

For .380, get some Corbon DPX. It's pricey, but worth it. I carry it in my P3AT. Otherwise, just stick with some good FMJ for the .380.

However, I would look closely at Hornady Critical Defense if you must have a HP chambered in .380ACP.  It seems like it may be the most reliable of the rbrands to expand from a .380 pistol.  I don't know the penetration however when expanded.  Is that stat up somewhere, or a gel test maybe?

Buffalo Bore .380 +P JHP's (Gold Dots) move at 1100+ fps out of little guns like the Kahr/Kel Tec/Ruger. Being Gold Dots and being bonded they will not fragment but the question is how much penetration? Sometimes the dynamic of "extreme" velocities for a particular load will fall outside the normal parameters of ballistic theories. i.e. the DPX rounds are lightweight and expand well but the high velocities they are pushed at also lend themselves to deeper penetration than one would normally associate with a fast, light, expanded bullet. I *think* the 90gr Gold Dot at 1100+ fps might fall into that category of sufficient penetration.

For .40 I like the 165gr or 155gr loads.

Gold Dots, unless pushed to "extremes" like Buffalo Bore does, are not my cup of tea. There are better expanding loads out there (if you favor expansion > penetration; I like great expansion with sufficient penetration).
