I've searched, but I haven't seen a clear answer. My S&W model of 1905 has .38 S&W special ctg on the barrel. I assume .38 special is just an abbreviated name for that, right? And from what I understand, .38 S&W is a shorter overall length and a slightly larger bullet diameter, but .38 S&W special is the same as .38 special. Is that right? Yes, .38 S&W Special = .38 Special. |

Yup same thing.
Lot's of cartridges have different names, often as a result of a company not wanting to a competitor's name on their product; so a Colt is more likely to be marked ".38 Special" and an S&W is more likely to be marked ".38 S&W Special" |
