IIRC this load was made originally for Texas DPS when they still used the Sig 220's. They had asked for something with more penetration in a JHP load that still had good expansion capability. I don't recall it performing all that much better in the field for them than the standard loads, but I certainly do not have access to all their field results. I do know that they had some qualification issues with troopers who were marginal shooters with the standard load. I also don't recall how long they used this load before they switched to the .357Sig.

I have shot a few boxes of it and can buy it for the same price as standard velocity Ranger T, but decided it was not worth the extra recoil in my pistols. Since I have quite a few .45s and most do best with the 230gr. standard velocity loads, I just use the Ranger T in all of them, but if I was going to use a +P load I think it would be the Gold Dot 200gr.
