I love both, but the clear winner is the 10mm
 but I would hate to get hit by either one  If your looking for a CCW weapon, the 45ACP will allow you to practic more if you dont reload. I love reloading 10mm, my cost per hundred is 10.00 for practic ammo. |

I cant CCW where I live.. But I do want to reload.. 10mm is kinda like Heroin... 1 shot and you are hooked... |

If you're looking at "one shot - one comparision" idea:
10mm can push a 200 grain at 1,200 fps. 45 ACP can push it at 1,050 fps. 10mm has more power everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. Now if you're going to take into account long term usage, the 45 takes the cake, ammo cost and availability are better, longer list of firarms chambered for it, yadda yadda yadda. |

I wouldn't feel undergunned with either round. Personally, I carry the .45 acp. Quality ammo and reloading components for it are everywhere. Also, I haven't found the 10mm of my dreams yet.

Ballistically- the 10mm is just better. Big bullet traveling at higher velocities.

if you plan to hunt with the handgun/use as a sidearm-- then 10mm. if you don't hunt and it's primarily for home defense/target---then .45. if both hunting/home defense then 10mm. if you reload the 10mm it's even better since you can shoot all you want for the fraction of factory ammo.

10mm is much more powerful and very flat shooting. When I had a Smith 1006, I could bust milk jugs at 100 yards with no hold over. Fun as hell.

Defense against what?
For in the woods defense the 10mm with Corbon (180gr BCSP at 1320fps) or Double Tap (200gr XTP at 1250fps) ammo. For home defense 45. Also consider the hearing damage if you need to use the 10mm inside a home.. If you use a weak load 10mm, you might as well go with a 40.. |

Kinda thinkin the .45 or .40 would be just as loud.... Deaf is better than dead... If I was ever faced with a self / home defense situation ( Hope never) Im not gonna hear the gun go off anyway. |

Yeah, they're all pretty loud.. but those Corbon and Double Tap loads sound more like a magum...and thats outside! Of course we need to protect ourselfs, but if we don't "need" the power and noise of a "Full Load" 10mm indoors, at least we can also save some of our hearing. |

I had a 10mm i1991-1993 and traded it for a .40cal. The reason why I did this is .40cals were being loaded to perform as well as factory 10mm loads, and 10mm ammo cost more back then.
Plus I never could find any selection of 10mm. I loved handloads through the 10mm, but had to depend on a friend to keep me stocked up......Just an absolute different pistol with handloads......... The 10mm should be to the .40S&W what the .22mag is to the .22LR, but sadly to say it wasn't with factory loads, may be today, but not then. With this being said, you can find .45 ammo anywhere, in all kinds of flavors, with reasonable prices. I like the avaibility of ammo. .22, 9mm, .45, .223, .308 type stuff you know...... Don't get me wrong though the 10mm is a TEN MOTHA MOTHA and they are awsome! Mine was a stainless SW 1006, looking back on it, Should of Kept it and bought a .40 later. All this Being Said....... beg her to let you buy both

Go with a .357sig. It has more power than both of those types(.45 cal and 10 mm). Looks may be decieving bacause the bullet is only 125 gr. but it is powerful and deadly and less recoil.
10mm 180gr fmj energy ft. lbs = 424 of kenitic energy better than .45 45 acp 230gr fmj e.ft.lbs = 404 of KE 357 sig 125gr fmj e.ft.lbs =506 of KE winner better than the others |

For me, I cannot shoot the 10mm worth a crap for some reason. No problem with 45 or 357sig. Go with what you can shoot better with!

You'll get no arguement that the 45 ACP has a huge edge in ammunition selection. But selection for the 10mm is not as bad as it once was. A few competitors to Double Tap...
