Does anyone know the approximate year the alpha prefix was added to the serial numbers?  I bought a 41 with a serail number in the 74000 range and am curios as to when it was made.

The prefix started in 1970 with the "A Serial Prefix" after serial number 115000.  My reference doesn't have number and year info prior to that.

Thanks for the info.  I called S&W and they told me that mine was made in 1966.
