I just picked up a 2" S&W .38 Special Airweight 5 shot revolver for concealed pocket carry.  According to the S&W catalog it will handle +P ammo. The dealer suggested Speer GoldDot .38SPL+P 135gr. GDHP for the gun. I'm a 1911 guy, so I'd like recommendations on defensive loads for this gun. Thank you.

Doc that GDHP is a great defensive load for the 38, I carry that in my centennial.....but dont plan on shooting a whole lot of that at the range, it will knock the crap out of your hand

Try the Corbon DPX 110g +P

From the tests I have seen it has great velocity, penetration, and expansion.

The unscientific testing that my friend did on my .38+P 135gr GDHP ammo provided some very impressive expansion.  If I can find the bullets I'll take some digi pics and post the expansion we got off of them.  The recoil is manageable in the J frame I have shot them out of, and they are accurate.   My only beef is the 20rd boxes...

Has anyone found a good internet source for ordering the new Speer 135g SB load?
It seems you do have to be carefull as most places have the old stuff only.

Mirage has the Speer GD 135gr +P for $15 per box of 50 (plus shipping).  It doesn't get any better than that.

DocGun - do you mind if I ask how much you paid for the Airweight?  Is it a model 637?

All the old timers say LSWCHP +P in a snubby is the way to go. All the newer fancy stuff just tries to do what the LSWCHP has always done. I think a 158gr lead HP launched from a 2.5" bbl will do the trick. If I can't get the HP then I'd go with a lead full wad cutter loaded +P.

I have tested the Gold Dot 135 in Duxseal, and it outperformed everything else I've tried out of my 3" M-65.  I like it so much I carry it on duty, and that's not something I take lightly.  The best source I've found is the Florida Bullet Company, the owner there is a great guy who knew I needed it for The Job and made sure I got it quick.  I don't have an address at hand, but it's an easy one to find.  Tell Tom I sent ya!  I like him so much he's on my personal e-mail list.  Hope this helps.

Florida Bullet and Mirage Technologies are the same company.  Fantastic prices on all Gold Dot Ammo - $15 per box of 50 (plus shipping) for all calibers I checked.  I just ordered 400 rounds.
