The 9mm Pro I use for 3 gun has a tungsten guide rod and 13lb recoil spring. Runs fine with factory loads.

buy a Glock 17 13# spring off of ebay for $9. take apart the factory rod and install it and you are GTG. no need to buy a new recoil rod

Thanks, how do you take apart the factory 'captive guide rod spring combo' ? it seems to be under lots of tension.

I have tried 13lb springs in a few longslides...I do not recommend it. The slides had a tendency to come out of battery (and these springs were not worn out at all). Stick to the factory recoil guide rod and save your money.

I have used 13 and 12lb spring before on other guns, I am not sure what 'coming out of battery' means, this is a 5" gun.

It means when you drop to prone/kneeling or jar the gun or shake the gun vigorously, it will come out of battery. I have replicated this on the 9Ls and 9mm 5" Pros multiple times (utilizing the extended recoil rods). 15lb springs were able to keep the slide in battery upon any abrupt jarring. |
