Is there a comprehensive list of the dash numbers on revolvers and what they mean?

I'm just now learning about revolvers.

Would NIB model 10-8 with box and papers be worth 500. The gun is unfired and heavy barrel.

It depends on how bad you want it. I wouldn't give more than $400 out the door. Remember that once you fire it it's just another model 10.

I wouldn't pay 500 bucks for ANY Model 10 unless it had extreme sentimental value.

$400 absolute top dollar and it would have to be a damn nice M10 to go that high.  Its not like they're rare. I collect M10's and usually lose interest if its much over $300.  Granted, its getting harder to find them at that price, but its not impossible.

remember model 10's were the "standard" police revolver of the 20th century- they made millions of them- I love beater model 10's-many rode in holster's on police belts every day and look beat- but despite heavy finish wear and carry dings are usually perfect inside- carried a lot and shot little- I usually pay UNDER 200 for a typical model 10 for 500 you shouldbe getting two and only overpaying a little!!!
