Ciao USAF,
here is a visual manual about disassemble the FS92/98. http://www.thegunners.it/links/index.php?id=26 Just click on "mod. 92 e 98 Serie - Smontaggio Completo". It's in Italian but the photos are pretty good and in case of trouble with my language I can help you. I also have a PDF copy of ARMY TM 9-l 005-317-23&P the Beretta M9 maintenance manual. in English of course. If you want I can e-mail that to you. Replacing the hammer in the SF family is pretty easy and doesn't require special skill. I fully disassemble mine every 500 rnds. Regards. Paolo Italy |

Let us know how it goes. I am tempted to get a skeleton hammer, but am afraid to do this myself too. I have changed the D spring myself, but don't wanna try that :p

Shipwreck, If you have already installed the D spring, then you have already done most of the work in changing out the hammer. Follow the directions in the links in my previous post, and there is noting to it. |

Got the parts in the mail today (FINALLY- freaking holiday!)
Took less than 5 min to install. I'm a little concerned because the hammer strikes noticably lighter now. I did a check of the firing pin by putting a pencil down the barrel and pulling the trigger. The old hammer/spring combo would launch the pencil a good 8 inches clear of the barrel when fired vertically, now it doesnt even get the pencil out of the barrel. I'm taking it to the range tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes. From what I've heard from several people here it shouldnt make a difference, so we'll see. |

Ciao USAF, your Beretta deserves a vigorous hammer strike, at the end of the day it's a gun for real men, not for classic dancers. In Italy old gunsmiths (kind of Artists) even do not replace the hammer spring when they accurize the 92/98. My 2 cents is just keep the original hammer spring and cut with a dremmel just one coil. Did you polished the sear? Paolo |

My concerns were QUITE unfounded!
I went to the range today and put about 150 rds down range. I looked at the primer and compared it to some old brass from the original setup and I cant tell a difference between the two dimples. I am EXTREMELY happy with my pistol right now. It is IDEAL! |

cut one coil off spring? NOT.YOUR GONNA SAVE A COUPLE OF BUCKS AND WRECK THE STOCK SPRING.NOT DO IT KITCHEN ITALIAN MECHANIC!

Me and a couple buddies got bored one day in SW Asia and disassembled a 92FS with a Leatherman.
Took about an hour to get it back together. What a bitch!
