Compensator. Directs gasses from a fired round upward, thus pushing the nose down and reducing muzzle rise and to some extent felt recoil.

Not a silencer/suppressor.

Compensators also make for a lot more noise as well.  For lightweight cartridges like 9mm-45ACP they--for the most part--are good for competition only.  For the hand cannons they are almost essential.

most compensaters ive seen for rthe 92/96 style are also accurizers. with a floating barrel they put the slide/barrel back in the same spot for every shot,,,,,,,,, or at least in theory
