SIGs are known as ultra-reliable.
Sticking those mags in it will change that impression for you. Cough up the dough and get factory mags. |

I had a Sig P220 a few years ago and bought some 8 round promag magazines for it. They were horribly unreliable. On the other hand I had preban promag glock17 mags and they worked fine. Personally I would stay away from ANY aftermarket magazines. There is a reason why they are cheaper! By the way, sweet looking pistol.

I'm not familiar with them but I bought my sig mags from sig. Seeing as how the assault weapon ban is going to sunset in september you might just want to save up and get factory hi-caps. Sigs mags are expensive. I paid something like $35-$40 for my sig factory 7 round mags and that was around 5 years ago but they were 100% reliable.

Thx again for the info. Quick question, how reliable are the factory P226 .40/357Sig 10 rounders in the P228? I read in the FAQ that they will work and will hold more than 10 rounds. If you don't know its cool, I was just curious. Thanks again guys!

The only "aftermarket" mags I have ever seen highly praised are Mec-Gar. I use the term "aftermarket" for want of a better term, since apparently Mec-Gar is the OEM mag supplier for many of the pistol mfgrs to begin with.
Suggest you check web suppliers for these. |

I just bought my 1st Sig 229 a couple months ago, and I picked up a "13rd" ProMag for about $20....
Contrary to comments above, I've put about 500-600 rnds through the Sig with that mag without any problems. I was also able to squeeze in 15rnds into it, not 13. I will continue to use it, and maybe buy some more, for range use. That being said, I would not carry my firearm with that mag regardless, and would stick to factory mags for when it counts. I trust it enough at the range, not with my life. My $.02 |

I have had 5 Promags for a Sig P220. They are fine at the range BUT ALL have had problems so I dont trust them.

For my 220 and 225 the promags work alright, but for my 226 they don't work too well. They seemed to work at first but after a few trips to the range they went from 15 to 10 round mags.

Good question. I have had a few Promag P220 .45 magazines that weren't suited to be paper weights. However, I have five of the Promags for my P228, and have only had a mag related malfunction once. I think they are good mags. But I also think that factory mags are the way to go for serious social purposes.

i got a promag for my 220 and they absoulutly suck, but for not much more you could get Novak or Act-Mag which are just as good as factory Mec-gar(from what I hear). I have 2 Act-Mag's(1 for the P220 and 1 for my 1911) and the quality appears to be fantastic, as soon as I try it out I will post the results.

Just a quick note. I finally had problems with my Promag last weekend. I've put about 1200rnds through it and this was the 1st time it has let me down. Just thought I should say something since my previous post praised them. |

The promags that i got for my 228 work fine. I have factory mags for defensive use though.
The promags I got for my 220 were shit, and the same can be said for a buddy as well. Get a few for range use if you want, but used factory mags can be had for only a bit more. Don't forget that any p226 mag will work in your 228 also. |

I actually came to this forum to ask this specific question, except I was more interested in the P220 8rnd mags. Thinking about trading my Glock 27 for a P220 from CDNN.
