I have a chance to purchase a Swiss police trade in Sig P228 for $400. It has some holster wear but looks like it was lightly shot. I haven't heard alot about the Swiss 228's so give me your opinions. Anything I should look for on the gun before I purchase?

$400 for a 228 in any kind of condition is a good price.

Don't know any specifics on the Swiss police guns, but I can't imagine they're any different than any other 228.

I'd jump all over a $400 P228.

Most of what I've read on the recent Zurich Polizei import P228s is holster wear of varying degrees but all are excellent internally.  They have various Kanton markings on them as well, if you're into that sort of neat stuff.  Buyers all seem to be pretty happy with them.  I'd say go for it.

FYI, Top Gun Supply just listed a bunch of them for sale on their website late this afternoon, and I'm sure Dan's Ammo will have them available soon as well.

I broke down and ordered one the other night too.  Looking forward to getting it.  The P228 is one of my favorite pistols.

I own two W. German 228's and I wouldn't hesitate to pay $400 for a 3rd if it was in decent condition, Swiss or not.

I just picked up one of the recently imported Swiss P228s. I couldn't be happier, it's an excellent pistol for the money.

Nice!  Where'd you get that one from?

It came from Top Gun Supply. It was one of their "very good" grades. I would rate it as nearly new. It's damn near flawless.

Excellent, that's the grade I ordered too...checking the tracking number every few hours  LOL.

I guess they sold out as I can't find them on their site now?

They had some issues with their grading and pulled them.

They still have them, but were removed from the site. You can check out the drama on Sigforum.com. Basically one dumbass ruined it for everybody. You can probably call and ask for one though.

I'm sorry, but there was more than one person who received pistols that were not as described.  One guy got one, received a half hearted response from TGS and posted pictures of what he got.  Others on both sides of the coin made assumptions based on his posting and the thread spiraled.  But, none of it would have happened if the guns had been graded and described properly.

TGS posted over there that a LOT of people had emailed/called complaining about the condition/grading on this batch of Zurich guns, wanting to exchange/return/partial refund for their guns.  He referred to this batch of guns as an "ass ache".

I don't know what to think of all the drama going on, but I just looked at mine today.

I ordered a 'very-good' grade, and it seemed to be all of what I could hope for in a used pistol.  I will be able to pick it up for closer inspection on monday.

I did notice that mine has a short trigger already installed.

I just got mine as well.  I received a nice serviceable 2000 (AA) made Sig228.  It is not cherry and has some holster use and a few shinny spots but the internals are darn near new.  I do not feel like treating it like a $800 Sig and I am very happy with my new pistol.  A new Sig spring kit and 2 magazine floorplates has fixed any issue that I may have or thought to have had.

TGS is also showing new in box 228's. I'm going to check out the used swiss ones at my local fun shop tomorrow. Last time i checked they had way to much holster wear for me though. So I'll either be getting a used one or ordering a new one tomorrow.

Those new P228s are made on 9mm P229 SAS frames, so they have rounded edges if that matters to you.

It seems as if I have become some sort of rallying point because of that thread on Sigforum. I have received many, many emails from people who were disappointed with their Zurich P228's, some with pictures.

Based upon the number of examples, and assuming (big assumption, I know) they were truly sold as the grades then claimed they were, it is my opinion that someone seriously dropped the ball in terms of grading on this batch.

So deercop other then the finish how was the gun?

My and one other known (to me) "excellent/A+" grade gun had noticeable wear internally.  Both of the mags I got were rusted.  Another guy bought two of the same top grade, and while he has yet to pick them up (waiting period), he reports the slide rattles on the frame with both.

TGS has refunded me the difference between grades (paid for vs received).

I ended up finding a NIB non-railed 228 at a local shop. After looking at the used ones available locally I decided to spend the extra cash and buy new.
