Without date stamps or capacity restrictions, I don't think you can. I just bought new P229 mags last month and they are identical to the ones I purchased pre-94.
eta: Same goes for all my Sig Mec-Gar +2 mags. The prebans and the current mags are identical. |

The only one Sig marked sre the high cap ones made during the ban I believe.

The pre-ban standard capacity P229 factory magazines were manufactured by J.P. Sauer & Sohn in Germany. Mec-Gar became OEM during the ban, so if they are made in Italy, they are not pre-ban. If they are German and do not have the restricted markings, they are pre-ban.

If mags were made DURING the ban, wouldn't they be 10 round mags or restricted high capacity LEO/govt/import only mags?
Shouldn't the question be: How do I distinguish a pre-94 mag from a post-04 mag? Should someone living in a not-so-free state assume that if a mag is available for sale in his local funshop, it is legal to purchase and possess?  |

There are numerous styles of SIG Factory Mags.
From the top of my head: (Some MAY BE LEO MARKED) 1. Sauer Stamped Zipperback (small S circular logo) P226 Marked (German) 2. Sauer Stamped Zipperback 9mm marked (not P226 Marked)(German) 3. Sauer Stamped Ladderback 9mm marked. (German) 4. No Sauer Mark Zipperback 9mm marked(German) 5. No Sauer Mark Ladderback 9mm Marked(German) (From HERE DOWN: May not be Pre-ban, even if NON-LEO Marked) 6. Smoothback Non-LEO marked (italian) 7. Smoothback LEO marked (italian) 8. Phosphate Smoothback (italian) 9. Hi-Gloss Smoothback (italian) There are also combinations of Pre-ban mags with and without the large dimples on the side of the mags. (I need to go back through my mag stash and photos to double check everything though.) -Jason |
