How can I tell the difference between a preban Sig 226 mag and a current production?

Without date stamps or capacity restrictions, I don't think you can.  I just bought new P229 mags last month and they are identical to the ones I purchased pre-94.

eta: Same goes for all my Sig Mec-Gar +2 mags.  The prebans and the current mags are identical.

The pre-ban standard capacity P229 factory magazines were manufactured by J.P. Sauer & Sohn in Germany.  Mec-Gar became OEM during the ban, so if they are made in Italy, they are not pre-ban. If they are German and do not have the restricted markings, they are pre-ban.

Go to our FAQ's. www.topgunsupply.com/faq.html The 6th question has details and pictures to determine if your magazines are German made.

If mags were made DURING the ban, wouldn't they be 10 round mags or restricted high capacity LEO/govt/import only mags?

Shouldn't the question be:  How do I distinguish a pre-94 mag from a post-04 mag?

Should someone living in a not-so-free state assume that if a mag is available for sale in his local funshop, it is legal to purchase and possess?
