Is it a big deal to replace the slide stop spring in a P228?

No, it's very easy to do.  All you have to do is twist your takedown lever another 180 degrees and that will allow it to be removed.  Sometimes it takes a bit of jiggling to get it out, but it will come out.  You can then remove the locking block.  On the side of the locking block there is a hole and the slide stop spring fits into that hole.  It's a 10 minute job if you take your time.  Go to Biggerhammer and download the P226 Armorer's Manual.  It shows the full teardown and re-install.  The P228 has the same internal design as the 226 so that manual will work.  MJD

Easy job if you take your time and pay attention to what you're doing.

Note that the trigger pivot pin needs to be pretty precisely positioned when reinstalling the locking block.

Do it carefully and things will just drop together.  If you’re sloppy and just try to force things together, you’ll aggravate yourself to death!

In particular, make sure you’ve got the two little half-moon cutouts on that pin facing the correct way.

Yeah, I plan to take my time and make sure it's right. I found out that the spring isn't broke, so I guess it just got knocked out of place.
