I have a P226 made in 1994 (according to the KE under the muzzle) with a U518XXX serial.
I heard that U serial # were from Navy contracts but does this apply to an older gun?

Thanks,

Jon

The U prefix on the serial number is specific to the P226 in general. There are two versions of the Navy pistol, one is a limited edition with a NSW prefix, the others are contarct over-runs and had the standard P226 U prefix on their serial numbers. There are some P226s where the frames were made in the USA, these have a UU prefix.
