It’s unfortunate though. It looks like Sig has done some cost cutting and production streamlining. The older X-Carry’s have a noticeable difference in barrel design in that the locking surfaces are larger leading to a tighter lock up. I also notice your X-Carry slide lacks the top lighting cut. For me personally I wouldn’t mind as it lets less stuff work it’s way into the gun but still, it kinda takes some of the flash out of the X-Carry. Still a solid performer though. Nice shooters. At some point we as a group need to pull our resources and make a guide highlight design changes and rough time line for when they happened. |

Quoted: While we are on the superiority of the Wilson modules, I finally got mine back from an exchange and now have a compact Wilson on my full size 320. The months I spent going back to an X-Carry grip were miserable compared to the WC between the profile and the grip texture. Now I just need to source a 15 round compact mag, after a mishap with ACT mags that turned out to be pinned full sized mags. Thanks man. Runs pretty slick too. The slide rail channels seem to be cut just a little tighter than OEM Sig so a lot of play is taken out. Its not hand fitted 2011, but damn is it smooth for a 320. The Xcompact has a subcompact length slide/barrel with a grip module that is subcompact length and compact height(15rd mag)
Hopefully that helps. There are many variations with the P320 and not all of them are still available new. ETA The size of the grip module(S, M, L) is the palm size as said above. Each Sig grip module has the little letter on the rear bottom of the grip so indicate size. That is irrelevant to the frame "style" like carry, compact, fullsize, ect |

I think what I’m looking for is the 3.9” slide/barrel paired with the X-Compact grip module. Also, as you stated, the X-Carry is no longer available, but there are currently a couple of used ones available in my larger AO. My thought was to buy one and then buy an X-Compact grip module. But, is there a problem with older X-Carry slides not being milled to accept newer optics? Is there a better way for me to accomplish what I am trying to do, or a reason not to do it? |
|
The older optic cut slides are cut for the Romeo1. Newer slides are cut for the Romeo1 Pro. So it depends what optic you are wanting to use. In addition to different cuts there are also different sight layouts. Some have a dovetail cut for the rear sight and the optic cut. Some like the Xcompact and Legion have the rear right bolted in under the optic cut plate so when you remove the plate for an optic, the sight is removed too.
You can have either style cut for an RMR footprint or you can use an adapter plate. It can be a task to plan all this out having to deal with all the variations Sig decided to implement ETA I probably missed some stuff |

I wouldn’t be able to tell whether the X-Carry was an older cut or newer cut by sight. Is there a serial number to look for when they changed? However, that older X-Carry slide is superior to the current X-Carry slide. The original X-Carry (like the in in the photo), has a special barrel in it. The barrel is a marksman barrel which is specific to that slide. It makes the older X-Carry guns very accurate as the lock up is very tight due to bigger engagement surfaces on the barrel and slide fit. The current X-Carry’s have a standard Sig 3.9” barrel. Probably because they are easier to manufacture. You can always have the slide cut on the older X-Carry modded to use any optic you want. Personally the Romeo 1 and Pro versions are not that great. I’d look at modifying it for the RMR or Holosun optics. A few places do this mod for $70-$100. Point I’m making is, while the cut out on that slide is the older cut, everything about that version of the X-Carry slide is better than the current X-Carry. Easy way to identify the new from the old, the cut out on the top of the slide. The current X-Carry’s lack the cut out. The current X-Carry’s have a square chamber and the older have a slanted chamber. If you go back a page to page two close to the bottom, me and another member work out the changes and differences now. |

$750 isnt a bad price considering the fact that I see used base model P320s for sale in the 600-800 range pretty regularly in shops and at gun shows.

Even with shipping that is a solid deal on a great version of the P320. @Charlie_Foxtrot Here’s another one. This guy wants $800. Attached File Attached File Attached File He says he bought it three months ago, but you’re saying that this is the older cut out slide, that only takes the Romeo1? When did they start making the newer ones? Did they use the older one for this special edition camo slide version? Which one of these is it? It doesn’t look like the Romeo1 only one on the far left. It has a standard dovetail rear sight vs having the optics plate with rear sight like the X-Carry and X-Five models. It has the Romeo 1 footprint. As for the claim that he bought them three months ago, I don’t doubt that. Lots of new old stock floating around other there. My understanding is that Sig made the change to the new version X-Carry mid 2020. The camo one looks to have the newer non-marksman barrel though it is hard to tell without seeing the crown. Based on the lighting cut on the top of the slide, in my opinion both of the P320 he has are the older but IMO, better version of the X-Carry. The updated X-Carry has the slide cover with the newer DPP/Romeo 1 Pro footprint, (the far right slide in the pic). If it were me, I’d buy the older X-Carry and get a CHPWS adapter plate and .330” front sight. https://chpws.com/product/sig-p320-x-series-romeo1-cut-to-rmr-holosun-with-integrated-rear-sight This would allow you to mount and RMR/SRO or Holosun 507/508 optic with back up irons. This is in my opinion with my testing to be the best option for optics mounting outside of having a slide milled for a specific sight. Side note, that camo P320 X-Carry is a limited edition. Not sure why Sig did it but it may be worth more in 10-20 years from now. |

Yeah Sig has done a lot of updates. Unlike other gun companies that will do a 1.0, 2.0, or generational updates Sig makes rolling changes. Some of these changes are improvements, some of them are unfortunate cost and production time changes as well. You have to really study the various models and stay current to keep track and even then you will come across an oddball one every now and then.

Here is where I could be wrong but my thinking is with the M18, the new Legion X Carry, and FCU build it yourself killed off the regular X Carry (for now). For the money it is really the sweet spot in the 320 series and conceals really well (I have not had any issues and I’m a normal build and height). Even though the model being put together as it is is gone SIG was smart enough to keep the parts available. |

Sig is supposed to be making their P320s with an RMR pattern slide. I do now know when they are starting or if it is even still true. So let's glance over that part
Carry and Compact use the same length slide/barrel and either one will work fine in an X-Compact grip module. They will just stick out slightly past the end of the pic rail/dust shield. So you could build your own with the combination of parts. |
|
The Sig slides with the RMR pattern holes only include the threaded holes. There are no recoil pins so the screws will be taking all of that force.

The problem with doing that is there are now 5 or 6 different foot prints that exist for red dots. Beyond just the footprint the optics themselves are different sizes. The issue with the P320 RXP and P320 with sight plates is that the Trijicon RMR is smaller than the DPP or Romeo1 Pro. If you use the holes in the slide to mount an RMR the optic will be relying on just those two screws to hold it in place. Over time those screws will fail, they will shear off and your optic is going for a ride. Glock has the right idea IMO but their execution sucks. Sig should follow their lead or buy something like the AOS https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/09/21/agency-arms-a-o-s-agency-optic-system/ It would make things much simpler, you just pick the plate for your optic. |
