I sold a 228 about 8 years ago, kicked myself ever since, finally picked up a refurbished one again 2 years ago, the whole time I was seeing them sell anywhere from 600-800+.
I got lucky and got into mine for 550. |

I wasn't even looking for a 228 when I bought mine. I was looking through the sig forum and someone asked about 228 police trade ins. Three days later someone posted in the thread that many 228 police trade ins had hit GB for $430 a piece with box and 3 mags. I didn't waste any time, went straight to GB and found them and hit the buy it now button. Guess I was in the right place at the right time

If you look around you can find them in the $600-700 range in nice condition but they can be hard to find.

I stumbled on one like new for $515 with some extra mags. Keep your money ready and stay patient. A good deal will show up and then you'll need to jump on it.

Got mine for $450 in 2011 it's a shooter definatley not a safe queen, came with 3 OEM mags. It's been said before but I will re iterate, save money and jump in a deal when you find one.
Or buy a new M11 which is a rebranded 228 from what I can tell. |

The 228 is a nice gun and like others have said, the 229 is the newer version with a stainless slide. My 229 has the 228 looking slide (larger/taller cuts for gripping) and if you get a chance, check out the E2 grips. They are a bit rough on the hands but give a totally different feel to the pistol. I have seen a couple 228 pistols in my neck of the woods going for around $500-700. It all depends on how hungry the person trying to sell it is.

They must be using a old pic on the Sig Sauer site for the M11A1 model then the grips say 228.
