I have a Colt Model 70 and it is a sweet shooter. I don't have a Sig P220 (yet) but I do have a P226 in 9mm and it is the smoothest shooting, most acurate handgun I have ever shot. If the 220 is anything like the 226, I would have a tough time choosing between my 1911 and the Sig!

What is your preference between the two .45 autoloaders and why?

That's like asking which of my two supermodel girlfriends I like better and why.

Both outstanding .45s in reliability. The Sig has an upper hand in terms of accuracy w/out any modifications. Both have a great 'in hand' feel.

Well, since your in the SIG section I guess I'll suggest SIG.

The Sig is certainly my first choice in a DA auto. I am personally more comfortable with the 1911 format, but that's just because of having more time in with it, and a preference for cocked and locked vs. DA operation. I do own a 220 and it is top notch.

I had three 1911 when I purchased the P220 15 years ago. I sold all three with in 5 years because I didnt shoot them anymore.

I currently have a two 1911's and one Sig P220.
The ONLY time I reach for one of the 1911(STI) is when I am playing a game (IPSC match) thats because its a straight up space gun. The other 1911 is a WWII gun so it just sits there and looks pretty.

Is that a definite maybe?

Not a politician, are you?

The P220 is the finest double action 45 available.  If you like the P226 you will like the P220.  The 1911 and P220 are apples and oranges.  I prefer a good 1911.  Watch-Six

You can't go wrong with the Sig - ultra reliable, good accuracy, comfortable to shoot - its a good quality pistol.  Having said that, I prefer a good 1911 as well.  My 1911 is much smoother and more accurate than my 220; but you pay more for it

I like the SIG P220

I love the 1911

Lower bore axis
Easier to use trigger
Smaller grip
Longer sight radius
Higher velocity
Slimmer construction that carries easier
VERY simple to strip to the most detailed level.

Thanks, Lumpy! Now that is a detailed opinion!

I am partial to my 1911 as well; it shoots good and just feels good in the hand. I do wish it held more rounds, though...

Have both, love both. Used ones running $400 or so.
