Thanks for sharing that story.  It is very illustrative of what CAN happen to anyone.  
I believe there are 2 kinds of long-term, experienced gun-handlers...those who have had at least one AD/ND and those that lie about it.
I stated in another topic some time ago, I've had 2, fortunately no one was injured in either.
I have witnessed the "exploding holster phenomenon" on several occasions with officers re-holstering after a highly stressful event.  I know of 5 people that have shot themselves either in the leg or buttocks this way.
Glad to hear that yours came out as well as it did all things considered.
