Sig 220 Questions

I am seriously looking into purchasing a P220 from a local owner. My only concern is that he claims it has about 8000 rounds through it. Is there anything I should look for, or any possible replacement parts the gun might need with this many rounds? It is all original except for sights and the slide has been refinished. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

8000 rounds? Refinished?

I hope you are not paying more than $300 on that P220. My guess is that you would need to replace most of the internal springs, especially the firing pin spring, if it hasn't been replaced yet.

The barrel might be serviceable for another 10,000 or so, but since the replacement barrel costing much as $150, I think you might be better off with P220 with lower round counts.

Where'd the 18,000 round service life number for a P220 barrel come from?

I made that number up. I still think 8000 round count is kinda high.

I'd pass personally if it was me. 8000 rounds is a bit much. Maybe if you could have a gunsmith check it out first and if the price was cheap. But, only if those two things were met. Just my $.02

Bah, thats a good break in.

P220s dont hold a really high resale value though, so Id stick in the $400-450 range if it has only two mags with it.

Saw this on Sig forum and found it VERY interesting:

10K Sig Shoot

Several owners on that site are optimistic about such a "low" round count. The seller has a replacement recoil and hammer spring, but has not felt the need to install them.

try and find a Certified Pre-Owned Certified Pre-Owned SIG SAUER you will be happy!!! I have a P220 no idea how many rounds i have put thru it and it still shoots great!

A buddy has one with about 30K. Still a nice shooter. Just replace the recoil spring periodically, and a barrel every 50K or so!

There is one in the classified section here, with several mags, nice grips, etc. Make a good offer and it might be yours?

Police trade-ins go for around $350. with a lot less rnds through them. A little worn though.

Well, I shot it, loved it and picked it up. I carried all weekend while hunting, and I think I'm going to really dig this gun. Everything's nice and tight, hardly any wear, and shoots well, even with my shaky-ass shooting. I've got the full replacement spring pack, so I'll tune it up within th next 2k rounds.
