I have a new glock 19. When the last shot is fired the slide stays open. When I go to put a new mag in the slide closes and chambers a new round. However it dont do this all the time. Sometimes the slide closes and sometimes it dont. Is my gun broke. Is the slide supposed to close when a new mag is inserted or not?

It was not designed to close when you insert a fresh mag but they all will do it if you seat the mag hard enough.  Some do it easier than others but it's nothing to worry about.

maybe you are slapping it too hard? worn slide stop? weak recoil spring?

I wish they all did that.

It's said that if you aim the glock towards the roof, and slap the mag in, the weight and force will cause the slide to go back just enough to release it and close the slide... Give it a try with Snap-Caps or at a range to see if thats what it is.

What's wierd is My USP did this, but only once.

On my AR, I like to hit the mag after I insert it just to make sure it's seated properly.  When I started shooting my glock, and I did the same thing, the slide went forward. I like this unintended feature personally...

On some pistols this may be indicative of a worn slide stop.  With the Glock, it seems to be commonplace with a hard-seated mag.   Personally I like this - under duress it eliminates one extra move for getting the weapon back in action.

Some do it more easily than other.  I am guessing you had the muzzle pointing up and slapped the mag in.  The force causing the slide to move slightly rearward which disengages the slide stop lever and allows the slide to go forward.  Don't rely on it.
