I have a 1st generation G17 and it fits my hand better than the 2nd and much better than the 3rd generation guns. The grip feels very slim... almost like a 1911. Why did glock decide to get rid of this excelent grip. The 2nd generation isn't that bad, but I do find the stipled front and backstraps somewhat uncomfortable. I can't stand the 3rd generation with the finger grooves

While I have no inside knowledge, I have heard repeatedly that the switch from 1 to 2 was for a better grip under wet conditions.  The deeper "genade" chekering helps with sweat and water.  Not as comfortable, but more stable.

I don't have any idea either, but that is what I have always assumed as well.

I must be one of the minority that actually like the finger groups of the 3rd generation Glocks.  I have a model 34 and a model 23 and I don't think I'd buy anything other than a Glock in the future.

I prefer the 2nd generation. Those finger grooves are difficult to index on the draw.

I dig the 3rd gun Glocks, they should have both types so everybody can have what they want.
They would sale more new Glocks like that.

They made it different to sell more guns...Gotta keep up with the Officer Joneses you know!

Actually, they made them different so uninformed people would think they were getting a better gun than what was originally offered.
