I have a first gen g17 from 1986. Just bought a g31, I was wondering if I can use the the g17 top end on the g31  frame for cheaper practice (the 31 is the new contoured frame). Everything functions properly hand cycling. The only diff I can see is the metal rails on the 31 are thicker making for a tighter fit. But I don't want to try it and blow up two guns.

It's not a problem. The only thing you Might need to change(other then mags) is the ejector but not likely. The G17 upper should by now, have all the upgrade parts in it.
