I am wondering if anyone prefers to carry the full size models (ie 17) for CCW rather than a sub-compact/compact model. i currently have a 17 and carry it. im just wondering if it would be worth me picking up a 19.

I prefer the full size guns personally.  I switch my carry weekly or so between a G21 and a USP 45F.  Nothing wrong with the compacts though...I just haven't purchased one.

G22 or 1911 5".  Carry what you shoot best.  Rinse and repeat.

I like the G19 alot but I would rather carry a 17 than any thing smaller than the 19 but it is just a personal thing. I do not like tiny pistols.

For me the G17 prints a little too much and the G26 is a little small to grab quickly.  I think the G19/23 is perfect.

I carry a 22 on duty and a 19 when I'm off.  The 19 doesn't print as much.

I dont own a compact version of any handgun, and I lug one around almost 16hrs a day, everyday.

I carry a G19 for my CCW but if I could get away with it I'd carry a G17.

I'll admit to considering a sub-compact for off-body carry.  For me this would be in a dry bag in a kayak/canoe or stashed in my backpack on multi-day trips.  Those times when I want to look like a sheep so I can study the granola culture...

eta - I just can't stomach going through possible soak / dry cycles with a 1911.  Unless somebody will tenifer it for me.

When I carried my G26 my spare magazine was a 17rd G17 magazine...I carry my G19 now because it conceals just as bit as good as the G26 and has 16 rounds to begin with. I think the G19 is the perfect size overall..never been a huge fan of the full-size Glocks.

i intend to get my concealed weapons permit soon and i'll be packing a G-17. simply testing its concealability under a T-shirt shows that it is certainly possible. little/no print. if anything prints on me at all, it's my wallet and my cellphone. the G-17, when tucked into the waist of my jeans, dissapears.

I use my cell to draw attention away from the tumor on my hip.  Deflects any quasimodo inferences.

G17 or G22 for me. I have a G27 but prefer the larger guns.

I carry depending on the situation and my choice of attire.

My basic rule is ALWAYS CARRY. I have a Millenium Pro I like to carry quite a bit.

When I am biking or running or in beach attire I carry a "mouse gun"(KelTec P3AT) just so I'll have something in the moment of truth.

I shoot all of my pistols and am proficient with them.

No excuse to leave the house un-armed

....I'm not really crazy about the subcompact Glocks, or any grip where your pinky dangles in the air.

Get a grip extension for the compacts. That is what I did with my G30. No more DPS (Dangling Pinky Syndrome). Of course, if you have rather large mitts, you may have to get a +1 or +2 extension.

Don't make this mistake,  Don't Don't Don't carry in anything other than a holster, unless it's a gun designed specifically for pocket carry and then I cant thing why you'd want to carry it anyway.  I just bought a belly band yesterday.  I carry my wallet, Glock 22, and a spare mag in it comfortably, with no imprinting, under athletic shorts, and a t shirt.  And at the end of the day I feel less fatigue than a belt holster.  If you carry waistband, you'll need a gun one day and it won't be there.  Or it'll rub into your stomach and be uncomfortable as hell and you'll shift all the time. or when you sit down if it's in the back it'll fall out, or poke out pretty far.  Pretty much everyone I know advocates using a good holster and agrees that waistband carry is horribly dangerous and irresponsible.

He was just testing it, but if that's how he plans carrying it, I agree.
If you are on a tight budget, get an Uncle Mike's IWB holster for $10 - it's cheap and it works.

Dusty, can you post a link or a pic of your belly band?

+1

This is for concealed carry.  For uniform carry, the full size.

+2

the G19/23 compact size is just right for compact carry or owb

now if the .45acp/10mm line were like that....

I don't know man a G30 with a 9 round mag is pretty small.  The G36 is also comparable to the G23/19.

Yea, but a 1911 has a thinner grip.  The thickness causes printing as much as anything.
