So I am a lover of all things Glock. Seeing as how I own 4, the 19's are among my favs of all time.
What's strange for whatever set of reasons, is why the Rangers, SEALs, and now Marsoc, have not only gone to Glocks, but the 19. When there are bigger more "combat ready" Glocks made, I wonder why the decision? |

Not sure, but my guess would be the balance of size and capacity and since it's not their primary weapon something smaller fit the bill...just a shot in the dark though.

I'm liking the choice they've made....makes me think we've been on to something all along, with the G19 love fest. What I like, is that it splits a lot of differences. It's big enough to be a "big gun", but small enough to be small. Holds enough ammo, can take a light, lots of accessories. Not much it leaves on the table. Just my opinion. |

Contrary to popular belief, USSOCOM units cannot simply "buy/carry whatever they want" just because they want it.
While better resourced than some conventional ground combat units, they do not have unlimited budgets and unlimited latitude in purchasing and procurement, and are actually subject to quite a bit of oversight from various directions. Unsurprisingly, the bigger the purchase, the more scrutiny applied. In order to procure something "out of the norm," they need to be able to define an operational need beyond what currently available equipment offers them. When it comes to Glocks, it is/was much easier to argue for the need for a more concealable pistol for low/lower visibility operations than to try to justify the purchase of more full sized pistols. The G19 fulfills that requirement, while still being able to be used as a practical service pistol. Nowadays, they've become all but de facto "standard," and it is less of an issue. Meanwhile, for certain specialty roles/purposes, smaller numbers of full sized G17s and G22s are also in service, some of which are suppressed, along with even more limited numbers of G34s. Other organizations with some more latitude have also used 35s (along with the other models mentioned), and even some 37s, among others. ~Augee |

Homeland Security had a warehouse of G19s when contracts went elsewhere... SF was offered them, and they gladly took free guns... sidearm is not their primary weapon...

Many soldiers would tell you they could care less about carrying a handgun. They would trade the weight and kit real estate the handgun takes up for more magazines for their M4

Glocks I've seen and service are
G17 (few Gen 4s, most Gen 3s) G19 Gen 3 (most common) G19 Gen 3 MOS G26 G22 G23 9mm ammo is either M882 Ball or Federal HST. Only .40 I've seen is a 180gr FMJ, white box by someone I've never heard before (don't think I wrote it down or took a pic). Haven't seen any of the new Win 9mm JHP for the M17/18 yet.

Very interesting shots, thanks for posting them! I didn’t realize that Gen 3 MOS pistols were ever produced. I’m guessing that was a DoD-only contract. I was issued a G19 on a deployment a few years ago, and it rekindled my interest in carrying a Glock. I already had a 19 at home, and the issued pistol gave me the excuse to order a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 for it (I was initially using an off brand or locally-made holster that looked like a copy of a VM2).
