I noticed this today while cleaning my gen 4 17 after a range chip. The polymer chipped in a couple spots and it shows the metal underneath. There's some weird rubbing spots too. What can cause this? Is it a problem?

Perfectly normal.  It is where  the front subframe section is.  Sometimes the polymer completely covers it, sometimes not.  Sometimes it flakes off off the area.  Absolutely nothing to worry about. I have a few Glocks that exhibit this.  That is where the guide rod runs, and the spring will sometimes shave off the polymer there.  It will also scrape the polymer leaving marks.  The 19 I have on my side right now has it, and it gets to a certain point and stops.  The 4th gen G19 I am carrying right now, shows it, and has about 8k rounds through it without issue.
