I have been shooting a Glock 34 in competition for 3 years and just bought a SIG 226. Both are fine pistols. I use the Glock 34 for IDPA, 3Gun, Steel Challenge, and other local matches. I have only had he SIG for a few weeks but I am impressed.

I have looked at the 17 as well, but like the longer barrel and site radius of the 34. In the past on occasion I carried a full size 1911, and wondered how well the 34 would carry concealed.

True, but the 34 weighs considerably less than a full size steel framed 1911 and it has the added mag capacity over it as well. The 34 is not a great deal wider than a 1911. I am not sure what the weight difference would be between the two with full mags. Maybe I am just trying to talk myself into buying another handgun. You can never have too many.

I carry my gen4 34 without problems, but I'm a big guy and can hide a long pistol easily. I carried a full size 1911 last summer, sometimes under a baggy t shirt, too. TN handgun carry laws make no distinction between concealed or open carry, so I don't care if the gun prints a little bit. Most people in Nashville don't care, anyway.

I carried a P220, P226 and/or P229 for 15+ years. Now I carry a G19/17 and compete with a G34. Still love my Sigs, but I just shoot more accurately with the Glocks. The 34 doesn't seem that big to me after lugging around the P226, but the 17/19 is easier for me to conceal.

Best Glock made if your not looking to CC. I use Dawson Precision black/black sights on mine and a Glocktriggers.com 'Edge' in competition.

The 34 really shines at competitions where the longer sight radius gives you some margin of error with your sight alignment. If this is to be a CCW I would truly suggest the 19 but to each their own.
ETA: The 19 IMHO maybe the best "do it all" 9mm ever made. If you don't have a Glock it really should be your first, especially for CCW. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

My plans are for it to be a do it all. After handling all three, my thought were possibly buying the 19 for my wife. After carrying a Sig for so long, I am truly impressed with the feel of the Gen 4 frames. All of you guys have been a big help, thank you.

I have a G34.3 and I really want a G34.4 some day but I will wait till I shoot my .3 out or wait till I find a good deal on a used G34.4

If you do get your wife a 19, carry it yourself a few times and run some drills with it, you'll be impressed with how capable and concealable it is.

I love you my Gen4 34. I have Warren Sevigny 3 dot tritiums on it. My is a blue label and came with a standard connector. I put a Glock (-) connector in and that's it. I don't CCW it, I have a 26 for that, but I like having it in the car or in my night stand.

Has anyone that has personally handled and shot both the Glock 17 and Glock 34 actually prefer the 17? The longer sight does seem more appealing as well as the slightly increased velocity I suppose. I really can't think of any negatives.

I have other guns I like to carry over either of those though so its not really an issue. Other than that my preference is the 34. Balance feels better for me and I'm slightly more accurate with it. Ever since I got a 34 my 17 pretty much just sits in the safe. |

My biggest obstacle is to decide which one to buy first. After reading these posts and talking to others, it still hard to decide. The 17 would be able to fit any role I need it to, then maybe the 19.

I would add go G34, one other thing to think about is, picture dropping them on concrete, which one would upset you more.

Shot a G34 today with a 3.5 pound trigger... liked it so much I went and bought one today at lunch time. Blue Label G34 Gen 3 with 3 magazines... $540 OTD.

$455 w/night sights, $398 w/o.
ETA: Cabelas did not go out of their way to be helpful with the transfer. The first guy treated me like I was stupid when I told him I needed him to fax a copy of my credentials along with their FFL info and basically wasn't going to do it for me. Fortunately the blue dealer accepted a photograph I emailed him that I took of my credentials on top of a garbage can at Cabelas. The second guy sent the information to the dealer over an hour after I left. I might complain to a manager and see if I can get something knocked off the transfer fee. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

So after I drive an hour to get there my 35 went from $480 to $545 OTD. Both options are still cheaper than the red labels though and I shouldn't really complain about getting a price break. I don't plan on entering any competitions either. The weight difference between the 226 and the G34 is fairy significant. In my rather limited opinion, the 34 wins because of the mag capacity, sight radius, and weight.

I carry mine too... I just don't trust it 100% with such a HUGE gaping hole in the top of my slide.
When I carry it regularly, I have to also clean it weekly due to all the crap that finds its way into my slide / frame. Not to mention the garbage "Adjustible" rear sight on the factory Glock 34 broke on mine after only light carry in an OWB rig under a heavy winter parka. If you're going to carry a G34, clean it regularly, and replace the garbage factory sights with something more durable. It can do both, but for carry, I'd trust the SIG more than my G34. That being said, I'd trust the Glock 19 more than the Sig... |
