Nasty rumors. Both the .45 and .40 Glocks are safe. The kBs that everyone refers to are people that were shooting reloads in their Glocks and got a round with a double charge. I have owned both the .40 and .45 Glocks. Both were safe as safe could be.

my g30 kb'd on factory ammo. Pretty much got a big FU from glocks customer service department. Wouldn't own another one if it was given to me.

Both the .40 and .45 glocks seem to have this problem. Stick to the 9mm if you gotta go Glock.

But who knows what was shot in the gun before it blew up on that good ammo. Some earlier bad ammo could have weakened the chamber. Look, all I am saying is that any gun company will have its detractors. Ipersonally have it out for Springfield Armory. Is my hating on SA unfair. Oh, for sure! I think Glock seems to have more vocal detractors, due to the popularity of the Glock. I have owned several Glocks in a multitude of calibers. I never once worried about a kB! |

Every company turns out crap from time to time. That is completely true and SA has had bad problems with QC over the last few years.
That said Glock seems to have a FAR higher incident of the catastrophic failures than anyone else. I know 9 glocks at our local range that have kb'd. All were 40 or 45's. In MY opinion glock has a SERIOUS problem with anything other than 9mm pistols. It's amazing how few glocks with AFTERMARKET barrells have had KB problems. |

Aren't there also a heck of a lot more Glocks than SA .45 in civilian service work. The other problem is also dirty guns, my friend who is a NYC cop says most cops he knows don't keep their weapons clean and some should be ashamed at the shape some of their pistols are in.
Being a relative newby in the world of guns I thought I just throw out what I do know. I always keep my guns clean and try to only shoot well manufactured ammo. I do have a Ruger P94DC chambered for .40 but I've never owned a .45 but I would like to own one soon. |

I know a guy who's daughter had a Glock 22 (.40 S&W) "Kaboom" in her hands.
No injury except for a little numbness and stinging for a few days.....  Factory Winchester ammo (Don't remember the bullet type, though...) (I own 2 Glocks: M21 and M17. I've shot about 1500-2500 rounds through them: all lead hard-cast reloads. NEVER a problem....)  |

apples and oranges how many guns does ed crank out a year? how much do ed's guns cost? i agree this is a little worrisome, but ALL the MAJOR manufacturers go kaboom now and then. actually, kaboom was the 1st thing that went through my mind when i took a g37 apart. those chamber walls are friggin thin. with a higher pressure round than an acp, a bunch of those are gonna blow up. assuming glock sells any.

I'm skeptical about this, does anyone have figures on how often this happens? I have 2 Glock 21's and a Glock 36 and have never had any problems that weren't ammo related. The Philadelphia police carry Glock 22's and I talked to someone in their arms room and he's never heard if this happening. I've also heard complaints about every MAJOR gun manufacture and their custumer service. Nothing new. And I'm not a hard core Glock person. I love all my handguns.

I personally have shot 3000 rounds of lead reloads through my G19. Another friend has approx 100,000 rounds of almost all lead through his G21. As long as you shoot good quality hardcast bullets there is absolutely nothing wrong with lead ammo in a Glock.

Actually, anything will explode when crappy ammo is used.
Yes, even hornady XTP and federal hydrashock. I had a Hydrashok blow a 1911 right out of my hand several years ago. Musta been a double load from the factory. The amazing thing was it didnt hurt the 1911 at all! A couple week ago I had my first squib with S&B, and I shot at least 10K of those in the last year. Of all the Glocks I have sold, I know of none to KB, go figure? |

Now I'm getting nervous cause I have about 500 rounds of Cabelas .40 remanufactured ammo left that shot great the other day.
I have put 100 rounds through my Glock 35 with not a single problem and another 200 rounds through my Ruger P94 with an occasional jam, should I dump the rest of the ammo or just use it in my Ruger? |

i guess you also missed the point where it was THOURGHLY cleaned. As for FAR more glocks than other 45's in circulation. COMPLETE BULLSHIT. how many MILLIONS of 1911's have been made over the last 100 years? Has glock even sold 1 million 40/45 caliber guns here? Now lets figure in sigs, ruger, and countless other manufacturers. In my opinion a STOCK glock 45/40 has a serious design flaw. Once again how many glocks have kb'd after the installation of an after market barrell? i have not heard of any. That says a lot. |

Even Glock will tell you DO NOT shoot reloads through a 40 cal glock. even new factory ammo has an ungodly bulge in the case after firing. a weak case from reloaded ammo is much more likely to rupture. mike |

How few(lead) rounds were fired?
Enough to have caused a weakness in the chamber before you cleaned it. Not arguing.Just want all the info I can get. In the .40s,is it a certain bullet weight or brands of ammo?...165s,180s./Federal,Honaday... Has a study been compiled on these factors?It would be interesting to see if there is a pattern. My brother ,who is a retired police officer,said they had a 9mm kb at the range.It was determined that it was the ammo and according to him the ammo maker coughed up some cash.Don't know who the ammo maker was. I like my Glock for carry because of it's simplicity.It's ready when I'm not.  GLOCK-23 |

don't get me wrong i liked my G30. After it KB'd i started looking into it. THERE ARE LOTS of stories of 21, 30,36,and 27's going KB. many are faulty ammo. Many glock has refused to explain. Glock admitted to me over phone the 30's had a history of this. In fact when i mentioned i had a g30 with a problem that was first comment "did it blow?"
Glock KNOWS about this yet REFUSES to correct the problem. Let me ask again. How many glocks have blown with after market barrells? That should tell them something. |

The gun had about 100 or so hard cast alloy rounds. AFter i found it might be an issue i had the gun professionally cleaned to insure any deposits had been removed. These were LOW pressure target rounds uning about 4.2 gr of hp38 under a 185gr bullett. VERY light. mike |

All I can say is wow....I have several thousand rounds through my 30 without a hitch. A firearms instructor that I know has well over 50K through his 21. Have they been able to give any info out about possibly running down the problems???

Portland OR police bureau is de-authorizing the Glock 21 due to KB's. I'm sure you can find info on a google search it's been in the local newspaper and tv news a couple times.

There was a post on Glocktalk a few months ago where a poster had a KB with a KKF barrel. I tried searching but couldn't find his post but I remember seeing the pics. The caliber was a .40 and he WAS shooting reloads. He believed the cause was a double-charge, |

i've seen a few 1911's as well. In every case it was an overcharged reload. Usually the slide cracks/ bulges the mag is blown out and on one the lower frame bent outwars on the slide rails. nothing nearly as bad as the glocks i have seen from an injury perspective.

I must have missed something somewhere. Last account I had, the ammo was factory. Now they are reloaded, low pressure target rounds - or were these the lead rounds you were shooting prior to the 'incident' with factory ammo? ok lets try this agin for those that didn't read the link. when i first purchased the gun i was shooting lead reloads. When i found that was a problem i took it to my smith and had the barrell proffesionally cleaned by someone with the equipment to insure ALL lead was out of the bore. The gun kb's a thousand rounds or so later on FACTORY AMMO. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THE RELOADS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM. mike |

I think most of the KBs come from Glocks that fire slightly out of battery. Don't reload, keep it clean....damn clean, don't chamber the same round more than two times, and check the function of your weapon often and you'll be fine. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with a Glock (and I'm an HK guy).
A switch to 9mm from .45 or .40 is crazy. LEOs left 9mm and .38 special for a reason. The only reason you shoot at someone is to stop them quickly. I don't think a center mass 9mm round has that ability. If they don't trust Glock in anything larger than 9mm, it's time to find a new brand. |

Interesting. You admitted, but glossed over the use of lead ammo. Then admit that 1) you were not present for the kB, and 2) the shooter that actually had the kB doesnt even know what kind of ammo he was using, or if it were standard pressure or (+P). KB's happen, for sure. I'm just not sure what causes them. one thing that i know will cause them is a severly leaded brl, or overpressure 40SW ammo loaded with too short an OAL. which can occur with factory ammo through administrative handling. |
