Slightly better than what? Slightly better than a 9mm with a shorter barrel, yes. Slightly better than your 27, no. 9mm usually delivers a little more than three fifths the energy of a comparable .40 load so you'd have to lose a LOT of barrel to make up the difference. As for the sight radius, once you find a load (or loads) your 27 likes, they tend to be surprisingly, and even shockingly, accurate. Yeah, the baby Glocks require a little more concentration on the fundamentals, but you should be doing that anyway.  You don't really need to go to a 19 unless you just want to or can't get along with your 27. Don't get me wrong, the 19 is pretty-near perfect and the 9mm is adequate, but I'd hesitate to move down the power-scale. |

To be honest, when I first started shooting, out of the box I was shooting the Glock 26 better/more accurately than my issued 19. Something to do with the recoil system. Trade for a Glock 19? I dunno. Pick up another Glock? I see nothing wrong with that

I have a G19 withi XS Big Dot night sights,, and the NP3 finish done by robar... as far as 9mm pistols go for CCW I dont think it gets much better than a G19.
Cheaper practice ammo... Longer sight radius... Unbeatable reliability and durability... Perfect size for CCW... large enough for duty size, small enough for CCW... I compete with mine and have put it through its paces, and its never ever failed me. I've always liked 9mm better than .40 cal... .40 cal has a lOT of muzzle flip as you know... and im sure as you know gunfights are won by placing FAST, MULTIPLE shots on target before he puts them on you... so there I belive the 9mm wins hands down. One guy put it this way... "The Glock 19 is Gaston Glock's little piece of 9mm perfection." GlockTalk.com has a whole forum dedicated to just the G19. |

Here's what I would do. Get somebody to loan you a 19. Shoot an IDPA match with the 19 and the 27. Pick the one that YOU shoot best with.

Oh, and don't rule out the 23, either. You get all of the aformentioned benefits of the 19 plus you get to keep the extra power.
I kinda get tickled hearing stories about the .40 cal's "muzzle flip." Maybe I'm warped because I was raised on .45's and .357's, but the .40 sure seems like a pussycat to me. |

Go for it! If this is for carry, don't worry about the extended slide stop. Just add night sites and load it with Gold Dot 124 +p, Golden Saber 124 +p or Ranger 127 +p+.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. The G23 would be a good option if I want to keep the greater ballistics of the .40 cal round. I'm gonna wait and think some more...besides almost all the LE agencies around here issue Glock .40 cal and I am hoping to get back on with one soon. Again thanks!

I have a well worn G19 with almost no finish that I wouldn't trade for anything. IMO it is the perfect CCW.

Have both 19 and 23. Shoot the 19 at the range alot and alternate between the two at matches. Since they fit in all the same carry gear, it's a great way to go. The .40 is my CCW piece but I can't pass up how cheap 9mm is.

For about $150 you can take your 40 Glock 27 and make it into a 9mm that way you have the option of less or more powerful. All you need is a barrel from lonewolf distributing and some Glock 17/19/26 mags. they make mag adapters to give you the grip length of a 17 or 19 at topglock.com. This will be the best of both worlds, short slide and up to 17 rounds of 9mm.

Smart approach. About the only think you don't get is the slightly longer sight radius, but the 27's is already long enough to be serviceable.
