I always wondered why the front of the trigger guard was recurved and checkered. I found one web sight that eluded to the fact that there is some other grip style (eg: weaver or isosceles) that would utilize the front of the trigger guard in the hand grip. Any one know? Bueller? Bueller...

It used to be popular to put the index finger of your support hand around the front of the trigger guard.
It was supposed to help control recoil.

Needless to say, it didn't catch on.

It actually did catch on, big time.  Why do you think the majority of pistols have squared trigger guards?  It has just gone out of the main stream.  Just like much of the "new techniques" in Magpul Dynamics  Rifle & especially pistol is a rerun of techniques from the 1970 - 80 IPSC boom.  It cycles in and out and the youth seem to think it is brand new or antique depending on where "they" discover the technique in the phase of a cycle!
