Is Glock still making (as in the 4th Gen) 17L?

I have an older 17L, which I just love, but I'd like to have the flashlight mounting grove.  I know I could get one of those add on rails, but by the time I buy that and have it installed, it's probably about the same money as buying a new 17L and selling the old one.  Plus it would be a flusher mount with a factory style.

Is Glock making many of the 17L's?  I looked at a pretty big show over the weekend here in Houston and didn't see any.

Thanks,

Not seeing them on their website.  I've heard it said they make special runs on occasion.

Yep, it's a sweet shooter.  I take it out for my Concealed Handgun qual test, and it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Plus it's totataly bad ass looking.

I see some of the 3rd gen on GB, but not often.  I may have to go that route for one.

What I really want is a 17L with  a threaded barrel.

Now that would be cool.

There's a Gen3 on GB now. @ $499  OR....
Why don't you just buy a Gen3 G17 frame? Problem solved.
Or one of these. Timberwolf frame  I know, they're on back order but be patient.

A G24 is also a great longslide too.  The extra mass (2.1 oz over a G22) reduces muzzle flip and gives me about 80fps higher velocities with my 180grn handloads.  When I tried shooting my medium loads there is no muzzle climb at all.

My custom G24 (note the solid slide):

I think the frame is the same length as a standard 17- buy a new gen 4 17 and swap slides

I am pretty sure that a Gen 3 slide wont work on a gen 4 frame...

That's a bingo.

I have either a 1st or second gen frame (most likely 2nd - bought new in 1995).  WIll that work with a 3rd gen frame?

I don't think I'll go this route, as I want two complete guns, but will my 1st or 2nd gen 17L slide work just fine on my 3rd Gen 19 frame?

Thanks,

Why not just get a G34?

The 17L has a longer bbl. than the G34 (6.02" vs. 5.32").  Yes, Glock still makes the 17L, but it's on a periodic, limited run basis. The dust cover on a G19 frame is going to be too short for a 17L slide.

I like the 34 too, but the longer bbl on the 17L is awesome looking.

Just to check, will an older 1st or 2nd gen slide work with a 3rd gen frame?

Thanks,

Yes. AFAIK, the Gen4 is the 1st issue where backwards compatibility becomes a problem.

17 slide can NOT be put on a 19 frame.

Nope, won't fit on a 19 frame, not just the dust cover.

Yup, will fit on 3rd gen 17 frame.

1995? 2nd gen.

There are several 3rd gen 17L's for sale on Gunbroker right now.

Not so fast there bunky.  Both of you need to check out Lone Wolf Distributor's website.  They provide all the information to and hardware to make it happen.
Lone Wolf  Call and ask for JR (owner).   He can fix you right up.

I stand corrected, but it is still more than just a simple swap. also, I don't see a 19 barrel from lonewolf that is long enough to fit the 17L slide. (guessing they would make one if you asked?)
