I am thinking about a Colt Government series 70 Mk IV.  This is not my first 1911 but it would be my first Colt.  How is their QC these days?  How are they out of the box?

not as great as the old school ones, but still one of the best production grade 1911s you can find out there

i would get one w/out hesitation

Take a look at the STI Ranger II series guns. I just bought one 2 months ago and it is a fantastic series 70 pistol (no front cocking serrations either). It's also made in the USA!!!!
