I am new to CCW and just picked up a Bulman Gunleather FBS Holster to carry my Kimber Custom II. I carried it the other night just above my jeans pocket on the right side. The muzzle end of the the gun would stick out about an inch below my untucked shirt tail so I tucked the end of the holster/muzzle in my jeans pocket. Put on a sweatshirt and my Carhartt as it was about 8 degrees out and it worked fine. I wore it all around the firehall with the coat off and no one noticed. Obviously this it not going to work when it gets warmer. Should I pick up a Milt Sparks holster now for summer carry? I am thinking of getting a carry belt also. Maybe that will hold the holster up a little higher under my shirt? What do you guys think?

I don't know what the holster looks like that you were wearing, but I can tell you that I do believe unequivocally that you should get on the list for a VM2. Your Bulman must be an OWB.

I started out this morning wearing a jacket and tucked T-shirt, as it was about 38 degrees out at the softball tournament where we were. As the day got up into the seventies, it was no problem to simply untuck the T-shirt and take the jacket off, and my SA Operator was covered. No problems. I'm 6'2 and about 215 pounds, and covered up wearing my XL Team Florida AR15.com shirt. An XL is long enough to cover the gun even when I'm sitting.

Summertime for most people means thin and light garments that the wind can make fly all over. I'm assuming that you would wear your shirt unbuttoned here. That said, an IWB like the Sparks Summer Special and others, insures concealment that much more if your untucked shirt flies up a little to the beltline.

5'10" 150lbs. here...
can stash a Gov't 1911 in a VM2 no prob with a regular t-shirt.

My only issue is a bit more "creaking" than the G19 in kydex -
but I think I am paying too much attention and it really isn't that noticable.

Kimber Custom TLE II in Galco NSAII IWB holster. I can wear shorts, a t-shirt(dark colored), a belt, a spare mag pouch and mag and sandals(and have on many occassions) and be packing the kimber under the t-shirt and have the revolver in my short's pocket(though usually don't, I'm just sayin') and nobody is any the wiser.

BTW, I am 5'8", 190 lbs..

I am NOT a big guy.
5'4", 130#

Would this holster (VM2) work for me? Tucked and non-tucked?
(Full size 1911)

Hard to say. I guess it depends a lot on your method of dress. We are opposites, so I don't know how it would fit you. I'm 6'2 and 210.

If you're in the Tallahassee area, we can meet up and shoot and I'll let you try one on for size.

Does an ambi safety add that much bulk to the 1911?

Adds about 1/4 to 1/3 inch of thickness, and fits in a square smaller than one square inch. I've never had any sort of adversities from one. Makes no difference whatsoever in concealment.

Add the Chip McCormick slim carry grips like I did and it really slims down a 1911. While a big pistol they are slim enough to conceal well.

I just got my SSII from Milt Sparks and it's great.  I thought there was no way I could conceal my 1911, but it works prefectly.

I just ordered a Milt Sparks VM2 an hour ago. 20-22 week wait and well worth it, imo.
Get a good belt too.

The Milt Sparks VMII gets a big +1 from me.  I'm 5' 8" 170 lbs. and it conceals my Ed Brown Kobra carry quite well.  It's a Commander sized 1911, but I'd have no qualms about it being able to conceal a full size 1911, either.

Edit: Whoops, I think I just accidentally reported my own post...
