I've just taken the class and I am beginning the paperwork for the ccw and plan on using my kel-tec some but my 1911 whenever [possible since I can shoot much better with it. I was wondering who uses the 1911 and how it works for you.

I have an old wartime Colt that has been worked over a bit. I carry it using a Clipdraw device. That is a sheet metal clip that fits under the outside grip panel, and has a protrusion on the right side of the slide that fits over the belt or pants waist.

I'm ~~fat~~ ~~chunky~~ laterally enhanced, and the Clipdraw hides it very well for me.

Kimber Pro Carry II in Wilson Featherweight IWB holster, 230grn HP, Wilson 47d mags. Carry 1 spare mag and it works very well.

I CCW my 1911s about 30% of the time. Usually I go with a baby Glock. When I do CCW a 1911 it is either a Kimber or a Wilson CQB Compact. If I had a 10mm 1911 I would CCW that at least 90% of the time. NICE 1911!

SA full size 1911 with an Uncle Mike's Holster.

It works pretty well. I think I might get a C-TAC to replace the holster though, as I would like something more sturdy.

although, once the paperwork comes back on the M10/45, I'll have to get a Chuck Norris shoulder rig. talk abotu a boat anchor...heheheheh...

I have carried a 1911 of one form or another for the last 4 years. Most of that time it has been a Gov model. Find the right holster that works for you. Also do not skimp on the belt. If you can't find something that works for you have one of the top notch leather makers craft it for you.

I carry my Springfield Stainless Champion with 2 spare mags in a CTAC about 30% of the time.

SA Stainless Champion, Miltsparks versa max 2, wilderness belt
I feel very comfortable considering the extra lbs.

It probably conceals a little better on my wife, although it seem to do so fairly well on me.

My 1911s are my easiest guns to conceal because of their slimness. And with the slim-line grips installed, they just disappear.

Over and over again, I meet people who poo-poo my Kahr P9 and tell me that they carry a 1911, or "a man's gun", or "something with a '4' in it". I always ask to see it. They almost NEVER have it on them.

That speaks volumes to me.

Let me know you're in town & I'll let you see mine straight out ofthe IWB. The only time it's not on me outside is when it can't come with (school for example). Kahr is a good, small package, and if it was substantially cheaper it might be one hell of a popular BUG. As for my 1st line of defense in places where the rifle isn't permissible/practical? No thanks.

Get a good holster-thats the key to hiding a full size 1911. And a good belt, and the weight won't be a bother.
