A lot you guys may think I'm crazy but a man needs to buy a gun when he can.  After seeing "The Dukes of Hazard" my hotrod momma wife insisted on a new muscle car so daddy gets a new toy.  I'm looking for some advice.

My wants but not limits.

Something that will carry well and conceal well with good stopping power.
Something that will fit in the console of most cars.

My personal preferences.

I'm not taken with coolness or bragging rights of a gun and don't care for guns that are not rugged and reliable.  For example, I can't bring myself to buy a Keltec.  

Not an advocate of high mag capacity as a criteria.  I have enough go to war guns and need a defense gun.  Still a high capacity mag capability is always a plus.  

Availabilty of ammunition and aftermarket goodies such as holsters is always high on my preference lists.  It's why I don't own a Markarov.  

Recoil is not an issue for me one way or the other.  I don't limp wrist and have decent wrist stamina.

I like both revolvers and semiautomatics.  Don't care for safeties but proficient with a thumb safety so can go either decocking, thumb safety, or no safety.  My finger is my safety.

My usual carry preference is down the small of my back.  I like a fast draw.


Here it is guys, I got a chance to get another gun but don't have the foggiest what to get.  What say you all?

I actually went in totally convinced to buy a Glock but walked out the door with a XD9 Service in OD.

I already have 15 calibers to keep track of and wanted to keep my ammunition pretty much the same calibers I already use.  Wanted something not only I could carry but my wife or son could use easily.  Side by side, I liked the grip feel, cock indicator, and chambered round indicator better than Glock.

I found the gun to have a slight more barrel lift than the Glock but still not bad by other gun standards.  It feeds my cheap ass Hp ammo I use to test reliabilty without problems.

Thanks for the inputs.  Thanks to you guys I now have other guns on my want list.

Yea, nice gun.  It's the third generation model 39 with all the bugs worked out.  I've had it for years and it's literaly saved my butt more than once.  It was so popular when they dropped the 39 and 59 series they kept the 39-2 around for a few more years.  I mean this gun feeds anything I put into it.

I actually am so familliar with my 39-2, I used it for my CCW test.  It kind of shocked me with it being so old a model that there were three others in the class with 39-2s with the only gun more beign Glocks.  Mine was the prettiest though.  I take care of my guns so even old, it looks like it just came out of the box.  

I guess what sold me the most on the XD was the handgrip.  It was a perfect size for my hand yet still used high cap mags.  The Ruger was my only other high cap mag 9mm but is quite a bit bulkier.

Quite frankly bud, I could have passed my CCW firing test with a handful of railroad rocks.  It was free standing 48 rounds half at seven feet and seven yards and the last half at 15 yards.  

Kind of shocked me how many people failed though.  I guess some folks are just better off throwing the gun instead of shooting it.

With the exception of my 22s, I have both CCW and side holsters for all my handguns.  I've been shooting for over 40 years.  Never was and never will be a nail driver competiton shooter but fair enough to hit black at 25 yards and target at 50 yards with every gun I own.  That's the standard I set myself for self defense.
