I used this thread as a guide to attaching a sling to my AK pistol. I put the loop around the pistol grip retaining screw for a little bit more support, but I think the way dfwgun shows in his thread would work just fine also. I'm using a Magpul MS2 sling right now, and it works very well in single point and two point mode. I added another small loop of paracord on the front sling mount also, to accommodate the clamp on the MS2 sling which was just a tad bit too big for the factory sling mount.

Feel free to post your ideas, and pictures of how you attached your sling!

I saw where someone used nylon strapping, like from a sling which had a quick release buckle right behind the grip. Only got a quick look, but looks like he did something similar to the para-cord thing you did. I hope he sees this and posts his pics. Don't have one, yet, but working on it.

Anyone source a folding loop to mount at the side rear of the receiver? I'll try to find a pic as I know its a factory part on some AkK variants.

That'll be me.....

I basically did the same thing as the OP. I took a 1" nylon strap, melted a hole the same diameter as the pistol grip screw. I then took off the grip and used the pistol grip bolt/screw as an anchor point for my sling strap. One thing I like about using this strap method is that I don't have to cut (notch) out the pistol grip. Just tighten the grip down and the finish product will be flush w/ the bottom of the receiver.

At the end of the strap I put on a plastic buckle. Attached to the buckle I made a simple sling loop. Works surprisingly well too.

The cost of materials was approx. $5. Nothing too fancy bout it. Let me know if you guys want more details.

Drilling and Tapping for a sling loop stud on the rear of the receiver is a good idea. The picture below is a stud attached to the side/rear of an AMD-65

What I really would like to do is weld a Yugo rear sling loop to either the end plate or in the place it would be on a Yugo. But I know less than nothing about welding. Any info?

I drilled a hole in the back plate and put a single point sling in it. Works great and can be quickly attatched/removed. The cost was $7 for the mount and $4 for the leather Hungarian sling.

This is what I'm going to do eventually, but with a 2 point sling.

I'm a dumb nut, I have been on this site for 3 years and this whole time thought I could not post pictures. Here is a picture (also in the picture forum) of it until I can get home and take better ones to show you what it has.

The scope was just something for fun and a joke on our local build group website, while it did have an AK side mount here it currently does not (since I rebuilt it on a NDS receiver since this picture). I'm thinking of a top rail if anything.

Today I picked up raw material at Bass Pro Shops for the sling setup. along with the normal 1" sling hardware it included a machine threaded stud with a nut. There are plenty of wood based sling studs, but I needed a machined screw type. I drilled the rear of the Draco with a very small bit to determine the depth. I came to the determination the machine threaded stud was not long enough to use the nut. I figured out which drill and tap to use - and it worked out perfect. In fact, after tightening, the bottom of the machined screw comes flush with the inside of the Draco. I used a bit of Blue Loctite, and Viola! - a nice factory looking sling attachment point.

I thought about doing pics, but I was working alone and frankly it isn't that exciting. I barely had enough hands as it was.

Other than Tap and drill bit selection, the important part is to block the Action from any metal shavings from the drilling and tapping. As normal, use plenty of oil on the tap and remove it often after cutting just a few threads. Don't force the cutting of threads in one operation because it's not going to happen, you'll end up snapping the tap off or ending up with messed up weak threads.

The hardware cost about $15, and was made by Uncle Mikes - part #1231-2. I only used a couple of the parts, but it was the only package I saw there that had a stud with threaded machine screw/nut in addition to the typical wood type stud.

I drilled and tapped the center back of my Yugo pistol for a Yankee Hill 360 degree swivel base that has the uncle mikes TYPE post in the center except it swivels 360 and made an 1.25 nylon adjustable sling for it so it hangs very nicely under my right shoulder and comes up so very fast. I'm thinking about picking this up and doing the drilling & tapping:

I like the idea that it'll quick-release and swivel.
Anyone use this set-up or something like it?
I have a tap wrench and #21 bit/10-32 tap combo waiting to be put to use but I'd like to know what the general opinion on that swivel is before I order.

I dont know how some of yall did this, my rear trunion was too hard for a carbine bit. ........ideas?

I am thinking of making a small metal plate with a loop on it and tac welding it to the rear and repainting it.

I think it's an AMD65 side folding trunnion.... here's what it looks like inside...

The rivets toward the front of the gun are not attached to anything, they are just there I'm guessing to fill some holes that might have been in the receiver.

That's a pretty good idea, looks good! Your Draco has got to be in the top 3 best looking AK pistols I've seen yet.

use reverse sling pressure to steady the weapon wile fireing. increases accuracy of fast follow up shots in the adsence of a stock

Easy to install and requires no cutting or any hard work. Just remove PG slide in between PG and receiver and re-attach :D

Got bored tonight.... I was going to do the 550 cord idea, but could only find my OD green and not my black cord. GioM inspired me to try something different

I took some of my flat bar left over from the "poor man's bending jig" and Dremeled until I got this. I also heat treated the sling attachment end.

Here it is attached to the rifle... I mean pistol. I was surprised to find that there was no play, it fits pretty tight. Tomorrow I will sand blast and paint.

So, did I miss the thread or reply that says how it is attached? Do the holes line up with the pistol grip bolt or do you have to drill another one? What's up with it?
