I am looking into purchasing a 397s and am also increadibly confused about what info is out there. This gun is 95% and has a fixed stock (not thumbhole) as well as a flash suppressor and it is not marked "SPORTER". Is it a pre-ban or post-ban? What should the gun be worth? Is it any different from an original Galil? Please help.

The "s" after the model number indicates it was imported after the 89 import ban. The "sporter " marked recievers were imported during the AW ban, 94-04. "s" models generally bring less than pre 89 IMI guns but more than kit guns built on "sporter " or aftermarket recievers. A pre 89 gun would probally be around $2500, an "s" maybe $2000, but it all depends on the market.

The "s" models are identical to other IMI guns other than the cosmetics, stocks, bayonet lug, etc. US parts are available if you want to change to a folder.
