I'm considering a trade on this Galil, but I had some concerns.  The current owner hasn't had it for very long, and he doesn't know its history.  So we don't KNOW how many U.S. parts it has (I don't think this is a pre-ban).  Can you tell from my photos?  Also, I don't know how much fore and aft room the gas tube needs, but there appears to be excessive play/tolerance/gap between the head of the gas tube and the gas block.  It is as if the gas block should have been given another turn before being pinned in place.  But what do I know?  Almost nothing save what I've found online, which is pretty scant.  What do you think?  It will cost me another rifle that I've invested about $1,400 in.

Most likely built by Arizona Response Systems (ARS).
Its a real IMI receiver built on a a Galil parts kit , post 1989 ban.
Worth about $1400 or so.
Looks nice , Hows it shoot?

I actually haven't shot it yet.  I'm a little worried about the front sight; it was adjusted all the way over to the right.  I'm hoping that it didn't take that much to zero it.  But I will test-fire it and let everyone know.

Are you kidding me?  While that Galil is definitely a kit build, it's probably worth more and will hold it's value better than an AR.

From an economic point of view that's a good trade, assuming the gun is in proper working condition.

The trigger looks like a real Galil trigger, not a more curved AK trigger, so I'm going to say the FCG is original and not US made.

Mike, I'm not trading an AR for it (although I agree whole-heartedly with Darkest 2000---I wouldn't even ask the forum what it thought before jumping on that).  It is looking like a good trade though, except for what Ugh said.  I'll have to do some more digging, but if Ugh's opinion turns out to be true, and the FCG is original Galil, then the rifle may not be 922 compliant.  Then I'd have to decide if the money and aggravation I'd have making it compliant would make the trade worthwhile afterall.  Thanks fellas.

If you take the PG off, it should be marked USA where it meets the trigger guards if it was made here.

If not you are probably looking for an extra $100 in compliance parts.  Still a good deal since it has the 1-7 barrel and an IMI receiver.

Buy it even though its a sporter....It will only go up in price. No more coplete parts kits to be imported... No more factory IMI receiers to be imported. Todd @ Ohio Rapid ASS is asking $1700 for a complete rifle. You could always buy a factory one for $2600 to $4000 and then be afraid to shoot it? Ask me how I know as I have two! The guy who made the ar15 comment is a 18 yrs old and just moved up from a 10-22 to his first ar15.

great deal because of the IMI receiver - AND - you have an ARM in the making there!  All you need to do is get a new handguard and bipod and you have an ARM.

Galils RULE.  Mine was stolen.

I'm not afraid to shoot mine!!!  I bought it in almost new in box (had two mags shot through it) 1989 and been happily blasting with it since.  As a matter of fact it's my truck gun and constant companion.  That may only change when I get my .458 SOCOM upper !!!
