just got my yugo type 59  from interordnance.  overall not bad shaoe for "good" condition.  tons of cosmoline, bore was nasty but cleaned up good once i dunked it for about 2 days.   infact, all parts were dunked in clp for two days, removed and cleaned with gun scrubber and break free.

the wood is tacky with cosmoline imbedded in it.  i used formby's furniture cleaner and it made a dent in it but what can i use to degrease the wood.  i am plannig on sanding down, putting a coat of kilz on it and then a cammo paint scheme with a red dot scope that i have that is in mossy oak.

any suggestions would be appreciated.  i am sure there is a link i have missed on this very same topic.  thanks in advance.

I used my BBQ grill on low heat.  I understand some people use their ovens, but the odor make for unhappy wives.

Heat the stock slowly and wipe it down as the cosmo sweats out.  Repeat until it stops sweating.

I ran mine through a cycle in the dish washer and then finished it off with a steam cleaner.  It cleaned up well.

I then applied 10 coats of hand rubbed tung oil.

I think it came out nice.
