On my sks, I don't have to remove any screws to remove the stock.....just whack the little pin behind the trigger guard. Then again, there are various versions of the SKS so for all I know, there's a version with some f'd up screw

Naw, that's the stock crossbolt. You won't need to remove that to get the stock off the rifle, it's just to reinforce the stock at that location.
