Looking at getting what I can in the current environment I haven't seen many SKS being offered up and the ones I have seen seem to be asking 1k
What is a more realistic number for an all numbers matching example all stock Norinco or Yugo? I came across a clean yugo numbers matching for $600 have the deal tenative and am meeting up. Work on the price or pay it and be happy?

For 600 bucks it should be in mint condition - like fresh out of crate.
Otherwise I'd try to squeeze a little but it's a sellers market and not a buyers market.
Make sure it has all the cool and quirky stuff like bayonet, grenade launcher and the night sights :-)
Also if this is a Yugo - don't try to get the firing pin retaining pin out unless you have a press or something they are really tight.
Simply drop the entire bolt overnight into mineral spirits and it should move freely afterwards. Never had any issues with this method.

Did yours come with the tritium Night sights or did you add? If added where did you get them?

The m59/66A1 came with them from the factory, all of them I've seen were dead.
@The_Noob_Again did you have those relamped?

As said if it's mint go the 600, haggle otherwise.

You can always haggle, but expect prices to stay relatively stable right now. It is a seller's market and sks rifles are selling for a premium right now.

The whole $600 if it's mint and down from there, well, good luck with that. Stroll on over to gunbroker and look at the closed auctions and see what these rifles end up selling for.

I get not wanting to pay more than a few hundred for the sks not unlike the guys who say no glock is worth more than $350 brand new let alone used. Those days are behind us now.

Welcome to the current gun market.

So true I have bought and sold many for $200. Is a nice clean gun. I got him to add in 100 rounds of ammo and he met me. The drive would of been an hour easy so I feel I did ok. It looks to be in great condition and doesn't appear to be shot much at all.

You got lucky.  I sold my Chinese in an aftermarket stock last year for $500 at a show.  Guy who bought it from me sold it on a few weeks later.

Saw a Chinese go at the show yesterday for $500, missing the original mag, w/ some Tapco duckbills.  Original stock.

Got mine from Atlantic when they were $459 so OTD I spent $499. It’s a great example all numbers matching, it took about 4 hours to get all the cosmoline out of every nook and cranny. Shot it last week ran about 100 rounds through it, irons were almost zeroed. I’ve had about 3 different Chinese SKS rifles in the past and this is a great rifle. Plan on keeping this one.Attachment Attached File

Like mentioned above. 600 and haggle down. Cabelas was selling their last batch of Yugos around that price point a few years back. I thought it was crazy but the market be like it do.

I've owned many SKS's starting with the $99 Norincos of the 90s.  Sold all of them as the prices got into the 300s.

Now, with the climate being what it is, I figured I needed at least one SKS for my safe, and it may as well be a beat up military issued rifle with some history rather than a common norinco.

I grabbed a Chinese Type 56 in "good" condition from JG sales for 499 (ouch) with matching serial numbers.  They had non matching "fair" for $399 but I didn't feel like gambling because I always lose games of chance.  Knowing my luck it would be a Chinese rifle in a yugo stock, with a blued bayonet, no cleaning rod, and a penis carved into the stock for trench art.

Described as mid to late 60's with milled trigger guard and spike bayonet.

My hope is that a "good" condition rifle with matching numbers would be less likely to be a big surprise.

Hope condition is like fullmedaljacket8's SKS

Check Gunbroker - you can probably get $650-700 for mint Yugo SKSs.  We appreciate what you do.

If they are the M59 varients with no GL that's a good deal these days.

$499 for a Chinese type 56 from JG sales a few months ago. Was always broke in the good old days of $149 Yugos! What arrived was unfired and numbers matching with a stock beat up from decades of being transported.

Still can't believe I paid that much for a Chi-com SKS but was all worth it after shooting it. Much better purchase and sweeter shooting than a Ruger Mini.

The days of $99 mint Chinese and $139 Russian SKS’s are over.  But deals are still out there.  I just scored a Factory 26 Chinese SKS with a Bakelite stock and blade bayonet for $600 and a numbers matching 1952 Tula unrefurbished Russian for $700.  Both come with correct slings.

Depends, if your happy leaving it the way it is than sure but if your wanting an original mag, stock, etc it might be cheaper to buy a 59/66 in original configuration.

Eh, 've got a couple of of spare sporter polymer stocks, and I think Fatalwishes left a half-dozen or more Tapco nose 20 rounders.  Somewhere I've got a 5 rnd flush fit.  Might not be there by now.

Buy the sks.  This platform will be worth 1k in 2 to 3 years.  No more coming in.

I brought 4 of them chinese Russia and yugo 4 to 5 years ago when you could still buy them in the 200 to 300 dollars range.

I just looked at what happen to the prices of every other popular semi auto cold war battle rifle in terms of prices.  It was alone a matter of time before the sks went up.  When surplus dries up the prices rise.  Simple supply and demand.

Plus they are fun to shoot.

$400 from buds gun shop right now.  Could be poor, could be fair, could be good.  IMHO it will be a rare thing to see SKS prices ever dip below that mark again so I said fuck it and ordered two.

Keep an eye out on Gunboards…

I got a Chinese SKS for a little more than what PSA and everyone else was selling the last batch of Chinese for.

But the nice thing… shipped directly to me (C&R… PSA won’t do that) and no import marks. To me, was completely worth it.

@Backbencher as a shooter it's well worth the money, but as noted before you'll probably want an original 10 round mag. The 30's are pretty hit or miss...

Wow, I bought my Chicom SKS at a guns show decades ago now.  I paid 69$ for it when I offered to also buy a 69$ case of ammo .
I cant remember if the it was 1000 or like 1200 rounds now.
Should have bought a pallet of them.  Mine shoots fine. But it does not have the bayonet.  Maybe I should get one :)

I just inherited a mint, unfired Chinese SKS with bayonet.  Gotta hand it to the FIL, he kept this thing pristine.

I have not handled one of these since they were 99 bucks at the gun show back in the early 90s.

I am an AR guy, just trying to learn, and decide if I want to keep this thing or sell it.

Go shoot it.  It's the ultimate refinement of the draftee general-issue rifle before assault rifles.  Coming out of the the 2nd WW, the Soviets had a much better concept of firepower for the infantry than we did and the SKS is the perfect expression of that.
