My bulgarian Krink's "brown wood" is in desparate need of a make over.  Troy Sellers made mention of people using Orange RIT dye when refinishing.  How is this done?  Some pics would be great also.

Wise advice Krink. I have one that I stripped the finish with regular finish stripper from Lowes. Then sanded her smooth and put a clear coat high gloss polyeurathane over it. Dont use any die or stain at all. It is not quite blond but it is extremely nice looking. I would recomend this to anyone with the brown handguards.

Another option for those looking for a red color would be to strip using lacquer thinner, MEK, etc. and then use a little red Minwax oil stain.  Once you get the color you'd like, then you can either use boiled linseed oil as a finish, or for a really durable finish you can use spray-on spar urethane.

The BLO over Minwax worked really well on my Krink handguards, they were laminated but started off life as brown & painted, which didn't work.
